Sensitivity of surface hazard to different factors and site response analysis approaches: a case study for a soft rock site

TL;DR: In this article, the sensitivity of the surface hazard to the site response analysis method is assessed, employing both random vibration theory (RVT) and time series (TS) approaches, and the effects of different assumptions relating to strong-motion duration, selection of target frequency in the surface uniform hazard spectrum, and incorporation of the variability of site properties through Monte Carlo simulations are also quantified.
Journal ArticleDOI

Machine-learning-based predictive models for estimating seismically-induced slope displacements

TL;DR: In this article, a new set of machine learning (ML) based models were proposed to estimate the amount of seismically-induced slope displacements (D) using the NGA-West2 shallow crustal ground motion database.

Identification of Site Parameters that Improve Predictions of Site Amplification

TL;DR: In this paper, an empirical site amplification model is developed based on the site response results that predicts amplification as a function of V s30, V ratio, spectral acceleration on rock, and depth to rock.

Non-linearity of gravelly soils under seismic compressional deformation based on KiK-net downhole array observations

TL;DR: In this paper, the nonlinear behavior of gravelly soils under seismic compressional deformation is investigated based on the KiK-net downhole array earthquake observations in Japan, and empirical curves for constrained modulus degradation are obtained considering the different levels of vertical confining pressure.
Journal ArticleDOI

Site response analyses using downhole arrays at various seismic hazard levels of Singapore

TL;DR: In this article, site response analyses using one-dimensional linear elastic (LE), equivalent-linear (EQL) and nonlinear (NL) approaches are performed at different seismic hazard levels of Singapore.

Shear modulus and damping in soils: design equations and curves

TL;DR: In this paper, an equation and graph for the determination of shear modulus and damping of soils for use in design problems involving repeated loading or vibration of soils, are presented.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effect of Soil Plasticity on Cyclic Response

TL;DR: In this article, a study on the influence of the plasticity index (PI) on the cyclic stress-strain parameters of saturated soils needed for site response evaluations and seismic microzonation is presented.

Moduli and Damping Factors for Dynamic Analyses of Cohesionless Soils

TL;DR: In this article, a simple relationship is proposed to relate the shear modulus of a cohesionless soil to a modulus stiffness coefficient, which is a soil property and depends on the characteristics of the soil, and the effective mean principal stress at any point in the soil.
