TLDR
The developmental properties of shibirets1 allowed us to make a number of observations concerning determination and pattern formation and to conclude that the lesion affects a fundamental cell process common to many cell types.About:

Leptin activates anorexigenic POMC neurons through a neural network in the arcuate nucleus
Michael A. Cowley,James L. Smart,Marcelo Rubinstein,Marcelo G. Cerdán,Sabrina Diano,Tamas L. Horvath,Roger D. Cone,Malcolm J. Low +7 more
TL;DR: An integrated model of leptin action and neuronal architecture in the arcuate nucleus of the hypothalamus is proposed and it is shown that melanocortin peptides have an autoinhibitory effect on this circuit.
Journal ArticleDOI
The cell biology of synaptic plasticity: AMPA receptor trafficking.
TL;DR: The life cycle of AMPARs is described, from their biogenesis, through their journey to the synapse, and ultimately through their demise, and how the modulation of this process is essential for brain function is discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Conditional modification of behavior in Drosophila by targeted expression of a temperature-sensitive shibire allele in defined neurons.
TL;DR: These observations show that the GAL4/UAS system can be used to express shi(ts1) in a specific subset of neurons to cause temperature-dependent changes in behavior, and this method will be useful to study the functional significance of particular neuronal subsets in the behavior of intact animals.

Arc/Arg3.1 Interacts with the Endocytic Machinery to Regulate AMPA Receptor Trafficking
Shoaib Chowdhury,Jason D. Shepherd,Hiroyuki Okuno,Gregory L. Lyford,Ronald S. Petralia,Niels Plath,Dietmar Kuhl,Richard L. Huganir,Paul F. Worley +8 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that Arc/Arg3.1 protein interacts with dynamin and specific isoforms of endophilin to enhance receptor endocytosis and likely contributes to late-phase synaptic plasticity and memory consolidation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Dynamin-like protein encoded by the Drosophila shibire gene associated with vesicular traffic.
TL;DR: The shibire gene product and dynamin have extensive similarity, and it is suggested that these proteins provide the motor for vesicular transport during endocytosis and are cognate homologues.

Temperature-sensitive mutations in Drosophila melanogaster. XIV. A selection of immobile adults.
TL;DR: Improved methods for rearing and screening large numbers of flies permitted the recovery of 10 mutations exhibiting a reversible temperature-dependent adult paralysis among 1.1×106 flies tested as mentioned in this paper.

Local and General Factors in the Development of "Pattern" in Rhodnius Prolixus (Hemiptera)
TL;DR: The pattern of the dorsal abdominal cuticle in the nymph and adult of Rhodnius is described and the individual cells appear to be all-important in the determination of the abdominal pattern.
Journal ArticleDOI
Temperature-sensitive mutations in Drosophila melanogaster. VII. A mutation (para-ts) causing reversible adult paralysis.
TL;DR: A temperature-sensitive mutation, para(ts), in Drosophila melanogaster causes an immediate, but reversible, paralysis of adult flies when they are shifted from 22 degrees C to 29 degrees C, a sex-linked recessive that maps 2.8 units to the left of f.
