oskar organizes the germ plasm and directs localization of the posterior determinant nanos

TL;DR: It is shown that oskar RNA is localized to the posterior pole of the oocyte when germ plasm forms and proposed that the pole plasm is assembled stepwise and that continued interaction among its components is required for germ cell determination.

Spatial and temporal patterns of neurogenesis in the central nervous system of Drosophila melanogaster

TL;DR: Neurogenesis in the ventral CNS of Drosophila was studied using staining with toluidine blue and birth dating of cells monitored by incorporation of bromodeoxyuridine into DNA.

Programmed cell death—I. Cytology of degeneration in the intersegmental muscles of the Pernyi silkmoth☆

TL;DR: In the silkworm, Antheraea pernyi, the intersegmental muscles of the abdomen degenerate within 48 hr after the ecdysis of the moth from the old pupal cuticle, which can be accounted for by cytolysis brought about by the rupture of lysosomes in the apparently viable tissues.

Programmed cell death—II. Endocrine potentiation of the breakdown of the intersegmental muscles of silkmoths

TL;DR: When pairs of pupae were joined in parabiosis so that they shared the same blood, the breakdown of muscle in one individual did not hasten or retard the breakdown in the other individual, pointing to some further signalling system which triggers the initiation of cell death in the endocrinologically potentiated muscles.

Transcripts of the six Drosophila actin genes accumulate in a stage- and tissue-specific manner

TL;DR: Three main patterns of actin gene expression are defined which are correlated with changing Drosophila morphology, particularly muscle differentiation and reorganization.
