TLDR
PMD cannot be defined simply as a degenerative disease of the muscles, but appears to be a selective degenerative disorder affecting only extrafusal muscle fibres; and among these those primarily involved appear to belong to phasic motor units.

The panniculus carnosus muscle: an evolutionary enigma at the intersection of distinct research fields.

TL;DR: What is currently known about panniculus carnosus structure, development, anatomical location, response to environmental stimuli and potential function is reviewed, with the aim of putting together the evidence arising from the different research communities and raising interest in this unique muscle.
Journal ArticleDOI

Dystrophic Chicken Muscle: Altered Synaptic Acetylcholinesterase

TL;DR: Individual motor endplates in the skeletal muscles of chickens genetically homozygous for muscular dystrophy have been compared with those in normal chickens and the various data available are compatible with the concept that a neural factor which determines the synaptic acetylcholinesterase, along with a number of other characters in the muscle cell, is defective in this disorder.

The Histological Features of Striped Muscle in Relation to Its Functional Activity

TL;DR: Analysis of the reflex behaviour of striped muscles involves data drawn from their histological structure, and the present observations deal with the differences in microscopical and macroscopical structure of muscles of different contractile properties.
Book

Diseases of Muscle; A Study in Pathology

TL;DR: The book is divided into three parts and deals with the experimental cardio-vascular effects of hormones and neurohormones, the third with endocrine and neuro-endocrine factors in cardiovascular syndromes.
