In this article, the crack-tip stress singularity and complete field solutions are derived for edge delaminated, angle-ply c omposites subjected to uniform axial extension for illustrative purposes.
Abstract
ion has caused severe concern in the design and analysis of advanced composite materials and structures. Due to its complex nature, very limited knowledge for the problem is currently available. It involves not only geometric and material discontinuities b ut also inherently coupled mode I, I1 and 111 fracture in the layered anisotropic system. Based on complex-variable stress potentials in the a nisotropic elasticity theory and eigenfunction expansion, exact o rders of the cracktip stress singularity and complete field solutions are obtained. Results are given for edge delaminated, angle-ply c omposites subjected to uniform axial extension for illustrative purposes. Effects of geometric, lamination, and crack variables are determined.

Singularities, interfaces and cracks in dissimilar anisotropic media

TL;DR: In this article, the Lekhnitskii and Stroh formalisms for interfacial fracture mechanics for anisotropic solids are formalized and a simple rule is formulated that allows one to construct the complete solutions from mode III solutions in an isotropic, homogeneous medium.

Interlaminar fracture toughness and toughening of laminated composite materials: a review

TL;DR: A review of the state of the art in the subject of interlaminar fracture toughness (ift ), its relation to structural performance and the damage tolerance of polymeric composite materials is presented in this paper.

Convergence of strain energy release rate components for Edge-Delaminated composite laminates

TL;DR: In this article, the problem of edge delamination at the -35/90 interfaces of an 8-ply composite laminate subjected to uniform axial strain was studied and the results showed that the imaginary part of the singularity is the cause of the nonconvergent behavior of the individual components.

Explicit solution and invariance of the singularities at an interface crack in anisotropic composites

TL;DR: In this paper, it was shown that δ is invariant with respect to the orientation of the plane boundary (in the case of half-plane problems), the semi-infinite crack and the crack and interface relative to the materials.

Singularity analysis of anisotropic multimaterial corners

TL;DR: In this paper, the singularity analysis of non-degenerate and degenerate materials is studied in terms of the order of stress singularities and angular variation of stresses and displacements.

The stresses around a fault or crack in dissimilar media

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the modulus of the singular behavior of the stress remains proportional to the inverse square root of the distance from the point of the crack, but the stresses possess a sharp oscillatory character of the type r^(-1/2) sin (b log r), which seems to be confined quite close to the point, as well as a shear stress along the material joint line.
