TLDR
Preliminary data suggest that a K + activated ATPase present in membrane preparation is involved in the mechanism of active K + uptake in the seeds.

The physiology of seed hydration and dehydration, and the relation between water stress and the control of germination: a review

TL;DR: This review surveys briefly the responses of seeds held at different hydration levels, from normal germination in a free water supply to seed activation without germination under slight moisture stress, seed deterioration at greater moisture stress and the damage that can be caused to seeds in very dry conditions, as well as the responses to subsequent dehydration.

Involvement of Ca2+‐calmodulin in Cd2+ toxicity during the early phases of radish (Raphanus sativus L.) seed germination

TL;DR: The toxicity of Cd2+in vivo during the early phases of radish seed germination and the in vitro Cd1+ effect on radish calmodulin (CaM) were studied and the possibility that Cd 2+ toxicity in radish Seed germination is mediated by the action of C d2+ on Ca2+-CaM is discussed in relation to the in vivo and in vitro effects.

Potassium Estimation, Uptake, and Its Role in the Physiology and Metabolism of Flowering Plants

TL;DR: The chapter reveals that potassium uptake is mainly metabolic at low external [K + ] ( M ), while it becomes increasingly nonmetabolic at higher (> 1 m M ) external [ K + ].

Control of Seed Germination by Abscisic Acid : III. Effect on Embryo Growth Potential (Minimum Turgor Pressure) and Growth Coefficient (Cell Wall Extensibility) in Brassica napus L.

TL;DR: ABA-mediated embryo dormancy is caused by a reversible inhibition of both of these changes in cell wall stability, and neither L (as judged from the kinetics of osmotic water efflux) nor the amount of extractable solutes are affected by these changes.

Effects of orthovanadate on H+ secretion, K+ uptake, electric potential difference and membrane ATPase activities of higher plant tissues.

TL;DR: In whole germinating radish seeds orthovanadate inhibited the increase in fresh weight, net K + uptake and H + extrusion without inducing any detectable change of respiration nor of ATP and ADP levels and it induced a rapid, partial depolarisation of the transmembrane electric potential difference.

Enhancement of Wall Loosening and Elongation by Acid Solutions

TL;DR: It is shown that the pH response can be clearly separated from the CO(2) response, and certain other aspects of the growth and wall-loosening responses, are described.

Characterization of Plasma Membrane-associated Adenosine Triphosphase Activity of Oat Roots.

TL;DR: Results support the concept that cation transport at the plasma membrane of root cells is coupled to a cation-activated ATPase which is functional from low (0.01 mm) to high (50.0 mm) concentrations of KCl.
