Transport of Trace Metals in Marine Food Chains

TL;DR: The reevaluation of the lead levels in marine foods shows that only very little Pb enters man through the marine food chain and that, therefore, Pb is not a marine pollutant of concern.
Journal ArticleDOI

Involvement of mitochondrial and death receptor pathways in tributyltin-induced apoptosis in rat hepatocytes.

TL;DR: This is the first detailed study reporting the involvement of initiator and effector caspases, cleavage of their intracellular substrates and activation of both death receptor and mitochondrial pathways in TBT-induced apoptosis in rat hepatocytes.
Journal ArticleDOI

Polychlorobiphenyls (PCBs), polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs) and dibenzofurans (PCDFs) in fruit and vegetables from an industrial area in northern Italy.

TL;DR: This study found that PCB levels in rosemary were much higher than in any other crop, suggesting that rosemary leaves accumulate PCBs and that this plant might be proposed as a "sentinel" of the presence of these contaminants in the environment.
Journal ArticleDOI

A cohort study of in utero polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) exposures in relation to secondary sex ratio.

TL;DR: Maternal exposure to PCBs may be detrimental to the success of male sperm or to the survival of male embryos, and some congener-specific associations with sex ratio were only marginally statistically significant.
Journal ArticleDOI

Toxicity of inorganic arsenic and its metabolites on haematopoietic progenitors “in vitro”: Comparison between species and sexes

TL;DR: Evidence is provided that exposure to iAs( III) and MMA(III) at muM concentrations is associated with immunosuppression in vitro, and the results showed that iAs (III) was toxic on male and female colony forming units to about the same extent both in human and in mouse.
