Vehicle Engine Torque Estimation via Unknown Input Observer and Adaptive Parameter Estimation

TL;DR: Two torque estimation methods for vehicle engines are presented: unknown input observer (UIO) and adaptive parameter estimation, which allow for improved computational efficiency and show very encouraging results with small estimation errors even in the presence of sensor noise.

An investigation of crankshaft oscillations for cylinder health diagnostics

TL;DR: In this paper, the effects of cylinder imbalance on the individual harmonic components of the engine speed signal were investigated from a cylinder health diagnostics point of view. Butler et al. used a crankshaft vibration model to evaluate the effect of low power production in individual cylinders of a six-cylinder industrial diesel engine.

Spark Advance Modeling and Control

TL;DR: A new method to increase engine efficiency is presented, by using the closed-loop spark-advance control strategy in combination with active water injection and demonstrating that the controller maintains an optimal spark advance under various conditions and in the presence of environmental disturbances such as air humidity.

Detailed analytical model of a single-cylinder diesel engine in the crank angle domain

TL;DR: In this article, a detailed analytical non-linear dynamic model for single-cylinder diesel engines is developed, which includes models of the nonlinear engine and dynamometer dynamics, the instantaneous friction terms and the engine thermodynamics.
