TLDR
The results show that pigs inoculated at 49 and 60 days of age became infected to different degrees and reacted differently to the presence of parasites, suggesting that older animals are more resistant to the infection.

Eradication of Taenia solium cysticercosis: a role for vaccination of pigs.

TL;DR: A new strategy for eradication of Taenia solium is proposed, based principally on a combined approach of chemotherapy of human tapeworm carriers and vaccination of all pigs at risk of infection.
Journal ArticleDOI

Dysregulation of the hypothalamo-pituitary-adrenal axis is related to the clinical course of MS

TL;DR: HPA axis hyperactivity in MS is related to the clinical type of disease, with a suggestion of increasing HPA axis dysregulation with disease progression.
Journal ArticleDOI

Time-response curve of oxfendazole in the treatment of swine cysticercosis.

TL;DR: The efficacy of a single dose of 30 mg/kg of OFZ for porcine cysticercosis is confirmed but it is demonstrated that preslaughter treatment of pigs with OFZ will not be useful in controlling cysticerci.
Journal ArticleDOI

Edema associated with calcified lesions in neurocysticercosis

TL;DR: Perilesional edema surrounding calcified lesions due to cysticercosis occurs in some patients at the time of seizure activity, and current evidence does not support the use of specific antiparasitic treatment in these patients.
Journal ArticleDOI

Kinetics of circulating antigens in pigs experimentally infected with Taenia solium eggs

TL;DR: Circulating antigens (CA) were detected in the sera of all pigs harbouring living cysticerci using a monoclonal antibody based ELISA and remained present generally throughout the entire observation period even in pigs carrying only five to eight living cysts, although strong fluctuations of the level of CA were observed in some pigs.

An Enzyme-Linked Immunoelectrotransfer Blot Assay and Glycoprotein Antigens for Diagnosing Human Cysticercosis (Taenia solium)

TL;DR: An enzyme-linked immunoelectrotransfer blot (EITB) assay was developed for immunodiagnosing human cysticercosis and identified seven major glycoprotein bands that are commonly recognized by virtually all serum and/or CSF samples from patients with confirmed cysticERCosis.

TL;DR: The experience of the authors with neurocysticercosis is summarized and current information on several controversial aspects of this disease is reviewed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Cysticercosis cerebri. Review of 127 cases.

TL;DR: The clinical features, diagnosis, and treatment in 127 cases of cysticercosis cerebri were reviewed, with typical multiple calcifications in 64.7% and ventricular shunt implantation was performed in 40 patients with hydrocephalus and produced marked improvement in 32.8%.
Journal ArticleDOI

Prevalence and risk factors for Taenia solium taeniasis and cysticercosis in humans and pigs in a village in Morelos, Mexico.

TL;DR: The results of this study have identified community behavioral and environmental practices that must be modified to prevent continued transmission of cysticercosis and taeniasis.
