Factors Influencing the Activation of Platelets by Nonionic Contrast Medium

TLDR
Three-quarters of nonionic LOCM-induced platelet activation appeared to be due to increased osmolality-the remainder to the decrease in ionic strength, and Magnesium sulfate and Iloprost are potent inhibitors of this type of plateletactivation.

TL;DR: Structural changes observed in MRI and SPECT studies along with reports of mild cognitive impairment lasting much longer than the amnestic episodes, indicate that TGA is less transient and perhaps somewhat less benign than earlier believed.

TL;DR: The present report attempts to show that excess magnesium will block, and that deficiency of magnesium will potentiate, the action of calcium.

Profound platelet degranulation is an important side effect of some types of contrast media used in interventional cardiology.

TL;DR: The results suggest that the type of contrast media used during invasive imaging of the vasculature could have a significant effect on platelets, especially within a PTCA-damaged vessel.
