TLDR
In this paper, the Fraunhofer diffraction patterns from apertures of the form of an equilateral triangle, a square, a regular pentagon, a hexagon and an octagon are compared with the calculated maps of the intensity distribution.Abstract:
In this second contribution the Fraunhofer diffraction patterns from apertures of the form of an equilateral triangle, a square, a regular pentagon, a hexagon and an octagon are compared with the calculated maps of the intensity distribution. For each shape of the aperture the first few maxima and minima of the intensity are tabulated and the formulae for the wave function are given characterizing the diffraction in the directions of the slowest and the steepest decrease of intensity.read more

Light Scattering by Ice Crystals: Fundamentals and Applications
Kuo-Nan Liou,Ping Yang +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors outline the scientific foundations that are central to our current understanding of light scattering, absorption and polarization processes involving ice crystals and demonstrate how data from satellite remote sensing of cirrus clouds can be combined with radiation parameterizations in climate models to estimate the role of these clouds in temperature and precipitation responses to climate change.

Simple derivation of formulas for Fraunhofer diffraction at polygonal apertures: errata
TL;DR: The Abbe transform was used to derive rigorous algebraic formulas for the wave function describing Fraunhofer diffraction at apertures in the form of arbitrary polygons as mentioned in this paper.

Forward light scattering for arbitrary sharp-edged convex crystals in Fraunhofer and anomalous diffraction approximations.
TL;DR: Analytical expressions exist for diffraction from circular- or rectangular-shaped apertures, useful in characterizing crystal size and shape, by laser diffraction instruments when measured in a solution.

A Simple Fourier Approach to Fraunhofer Diffraction by Triangular Apertures
R.M. Sillitto,Winifred Sillitto +1 more
TL;DR: The amplitude distribution in the scalar far-field approximation is derived as a simple expression, involving only sinc functions, in terms of two non-orthogonal coordinates related to the lengths and directions of two sides of the triangle as discussed by the authors.

Diffraction of polygonal slits using catastrophe optics
TL;DR: In this paper, it was shown that the transverse structure of a plane wave diffracted through slits originates solely from the boundary waves, and that these second-order evolutes still correspond to the brightest regions of the diffraction.
