Gas holdup and bubble size behavior in a large-scale slurry bubble column reactor operating with an organic liquid under elevated pressures and temperatures
TL;DR: The holdups of small and large gas bubbles, bubble size distribution and the Sauter-mean bubble diameter were measured for N 2 and He in isoparaffinic organic liquid mixture (Isopar-M) in the absence and presence of Alumina powder under various pressures (0.67-3.MPa), temperatures (300-473 K), superficial gas velocities ( 0.07-0.39m/s), and solid concentrations (0-20 vol.%) in a large-scale bubble column and slurry bubble column reactor
Journal ArticleDOI
Mass transfer characteristics in a large-scale slurry bubble column reactor with organic liquid mixtures
TL;DR: In this article, the authors measured the mass transfer coefficients and bubble size distribution in a large-scale (0.316m inside diameter, 2.8m high) slurry bubble column reactor (SBCR) for H 2, CO, N 2 and CH 4 in two organic liquid mixtures (Isopar-M and a hexanes mixture) in the presence and absence of two solids (iron oxides catalyst and glass beads) in a wide range of pressure and gas velocity.
Journal ArticleDOI
Hydrogenation of vegetable oils using mixtures of supercritical carbon dioxide and hydrogen
TL;DR: In this article, a dead-end reactor has been utilized in conjunction with a head-space consisting of either a binary fluid phase consisting of varying amounts of carbon dioxide mixed with hydrogen or neat hydrogen for comparison purposes.

Novel Physical Solvents for Selective CO2 Capture from Fuel Gas Streams at Elevated Pressures and Temperatures
TL;DR: In this article, three perfluorinated compounds (PFCs), PP10, PP11, and PP25, manufactured by F2 Chemicals Ltd., U.K., were investigated as physical solvents for selective CO2 capture from synthesis gas or syngas streams at elevated pressures and temperatures.
Journal ArticleDOI
Oxygen consumption and diffusion in assemblages of respiring spheres: Performance enhancement of a bioartificial pancreas
TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated two methods to reduce oxygen transport limitations: (1) enhancement of the encapsulant oxygen permeability, for example, by combination of a highly concentrated perfluorocarbon (PFC) emulsion with alginate, and (2) reduction of islet tissue size by dispersing the islets into single cells followed by reaggregation into cell clusters smaller than the original islet.

Correlation of diffusion coefficients in dilute solutions
Charles R. Wilke,Pin Chang +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the relation of P to conveniently available properties of dilute solutions is generalized to permit estimation of diffusion coefficients for engineering purposes for convective transport due to volume changes on mixing is negligible and other possible modes of mass transfer are not operative.

Effects of pressure on liquid-phase mass transfer coefficients
TL;DR: In this paper, the effects of pressure on the liquid-phase mass transfer coefficient at the free gas-liquid interface and on the volumetric coefficient k L a at the gas-bubble liquid interface in a stirred vessel were studied with various gas liquid systems in the pressure range 2-100 atm.

Diffusivities of hydrogen and glyceryl trioleate in cottonseed oil at elevated temperature
TL;DR: The diffusivities of hydrogen and glyceryl trioleate in cottonseed oil were determined at different iodine values as mentioned in this paper, and the diffusivity of hydrogen was shown to be ca. 100 times as great as that of the glycery ltoleate.

Mass transfer characteristics of gases in aqueous and organic liquids at elevated pressures and temperatures in agitated reactors
Min-Yan Chang,I Morsi Badie +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors measured the solubilities (C * ), mass transfer coefficients ( k L a ) and volumetric mixing power input ( P * / V L ) for N 2 and CH 4 in n-hexane and in water pressures (1-50 bar), temperatures (328-378 K) and mixing speeds (13.3-20.0 Hz) in a four-liter agitated autoclave.
