TLDR
The Geology of India by D. N. Wadia as discussed by the authors has been brought up to date by the addition of recent advances in Indian geology and a new geological map is an added attraction.
Abstract
THIS book, which from its first appearance has been the standard text-book of Indian students, has now been brought up to date by the addition of recent advances in Indian geology. The new geological map is an added attraction. Geology of India By D. N. Wadia. Second edition. Pp. xx + 460 + 20 plates. (London: Macmillan and Co., Ltd., 1939.) 24s. net.

River profiles along the Himalayan arc as indicators of active tectonics

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors show that the discontinuity in the river profiles and the other features are controlled by a major tectonic boundary between the rising High Himalayas and the Lesser Himalaysas.
Journal ArticleDOI

Stratigraphy, structure and volcanology of the SE Deccan continental flood basalt province: implications for eruptive extent and volumes

TL;DR: The Deccan Volcanic Province is one of the world9s largest continental flood basalt provinces, and derives additional importance because its eruptions (64-67 Ma) straddle the Cretaceous-Tertiary boundary.
Journal ArticleDOI

Global distribution of sediment-hosted metals controlled by craton edge stability

TL;DR: This paper found that 85% of sediment-hosted base metals, including all giant deposits (>10 megatonnes of metal, occur within 200 kilometres of the transition between thick and thin lithosphere.
Journal ArticleDOI

Modelling of land use land cover change using earth observation data-sets of Tons River Basin, Madhya Pradesh, India

TL;DR: In this paper, an integrated Markov Chain and Cellular Automata modelling (CA MARKOV), multicriteria evaluation techniques have been applied to produce transition probability, and the unsupervised method was employed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Delineation of potential groundwater recharge zones using analytical hierarchy process (AHP)

TL;DR: In this paper, an effort was made in the Kashmir valley, NW-Himalayas to delineate potential groundwater areas using GIS and Analytical Hierarchy method (AHP) by incorporating remote sensing data.

Areal Snow Cover Estimation over the Himalayan Terrain Using INSAT-1D VHRR Data

Abstract: INSAT ‐1D (Indian National Satellite) VHRR (Very High Resolution Radiometer) daytime visible (0.55-0.75μ) and thermal infrared (10.5-12.5μm) data have been used for delineation of areas under snow cover in the Himalayas. The boundary of the Himalayan frontal thrust belt and other with major structural features could also be demarcated in the processed image. Two different image processing techniques, namely thresholding and textural method were adopted to delineate the areas under snow cover. Thresholding technique was better suited here, though textural method has got a no. of advantages e.g. dimensionality increment etc. which is suited particularly for handling single band data. Results also show more and more snow accumulations over the regional lineaments and tectonic patterns (using INSAT VHRR data).

Prioritization of Soil Erosion Vulnerable Areas of Upper Patiala-Ki-Rao Catchment Located on Shivalik Hills

TL;DR: In this article, a morphometric analysis and prioritization were carried out for upper Patiala-Ki-Rao catchment lying on Shivalik hills of SAS Nagar district of Punjab and Panchkula district of Haryana state, India.

Field Geological and Petrographic Study of Granitic Rocks around Devadurga, Eastern Dharwar Craton, Southern India

TL;DR: In this paper, the field geological and petrographic characteristics of granitic rocks and their variants exposed at Devadurga town, Raichur district, Karnataka are described.

Geo-environmental assessment for land cap- ability classification of selected sub- watersheds of the siang river of aruna chal pradesh, india using remote sensing and gis techniques

TL;DR: In this article, an assessment of land capability in Arunachal Pradesh has been carried out through Remote Sensing and GIS techniques in a cluster of subwatersheds of four tributaries of the mighty Siang River in India.
Journal ArticleDOI

Geology of South and Southwest part of Uttar Pradesh and its Mineral Significance

TL;DR: The Bundelkhand craton nuclei mostly composed of Archean granitoids show heterogeneity in texture and composition, intruded by later phase of magmatic activity as discussed by the authors.
