Group Dynamics Training and Improved Decision Making

TLDR
In this article, the efficacy of laboratory training in group dynamics as a technique for modifying group processes in the direction of theoretically more effective practices was explored, and 30 groups were compared with 30 untrained groups with respect to their performance on the 12 Angry Men decision-making task.
Abstract
The efficacy of laboratory training in group dynamics as a technique for modifying group processes in the direction of theoretically more effective practices was explored. Thirty groups trained in group dynamics were compared with 30 untrained groups with respect to their performance on the 12 Angry Men decision-making task. Within each of the trained and untrained samples three populations of decision-makers were studied (20 groups each of college, management, and neuropsychiatric subjects) in order to provide varying levels of substantive and procedural skills relative to the task. The groups within each population and trained/untrained conditions were evenly split between established entities and ad hoc assemblies. The data were analyzed according to both performance and process criteria. Trained groups consistently performed more effectively than untrained groups on measures of decision quality, utilization of superior resources, and creativity. No tradition effects were discernible, and only expected...

Group tasks, group interaction process, and group performance effectiveness: A review and proposed integration

TL;DR: In this article, a review of existing research and thought on the role of group interaction in task-oriented groups, and a set of strategies for influencing group interaction and group performance by alteration of input factors has been proposed within the new framework.

Cooperative learning methods: A meta-analysis.

Conflict in the Classroom: Controversy And Learning

TL;DR: In this paper, a teacher is presenting a lesson on the United States Congress and the students are discussing in small groups the reasons why citizens want to be representatives in Congress, one student says the major reason is wanting to help your neighbors and your country, and quotes Roger Mudd (CBS News, December 24, 1976) that a representative in Congress receives more than $400,000 per year in salary and benefits.

Team learning: collectively connecting the dots.

TL;DR: Results from 109 four-person project teams working on an interdependent command and control simulator indicated that teams learned more when composed of individuals who were high in cognitive ability and when the workload was distributed evenly, and teams using a paired structure learned more than teams structured either functionally or divisionally.

Working papers in the theory of action

TL;DR: In the hope of provoking discussion among sociologists, psychologists, philosophers, and psychiatrists interested in social theory, the authors made available a set of working papers which constitute an attempt to develop more intensively a systematic theory of action.
