Pyrolytic and Petrogenic Inputs in Recent Sediments: A Definitive Signature Through Phenanthrene and Chrysene Compound Distribution

TL;DR: Methylphenanthrene and methylchrysene distributions have been determined by Shpol'skii Spectroscopy in chromatographic fractions of various environmental samples, including Standard Reference Materials (SRM), and demonstrated to be an indicator of the temperature of the formation of aromatic material in natural matrices as discussed by the authors.
Journal ArticleDOI

Relation of the methylated aromatic hydrocarbon distribution pattern to the maturity of organic matter in ancient sediments from the Mahakam delta

TL;DR: The distribution of methyl-phenanthrenes, -anthracenes, -chrysenes and -pyrenes in twelve immature coal samples from the Mahakam delta (Indonesia) have been examined by capillary gas chromatography (CGC) and high resolution Shpol'skii spectroscopy (HRS) as mentioned in this paper.

Biomarker PAHs in the Environment

TL;DR: The sources and fate of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons derived from natural products are discussed in this article, including terpenoid and steroid sources of biomarker PAHs, their occurrence in ancient and contemporary sediments, various modes of formation, and their dissemination in the geosphere, hydrosphere and atmosphere.
Journal ArticleDOI

Analytical Methods for Determination of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) — A Historical Perspective on the 16 U.S. EPA Priority Pollutant PAHs

TL;DR: The identification of 16 polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) as priority pollutants by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in 1976 has been a primary driver for analytical methods development for the determination of PAHs.
Journal ArticleDOI

Selective Aerobic Degradation of Methyl-Substituted Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons in Petroleum by Pure Microbial Culturest

TL;DR: In this paper, the degradation of Arabian light crude oil (b.p. < 200°C) by pure cultures of bacterial strains Pseudomonas sp. isolated from tanker ballast waters showed that biodegradation of alkyl-substituted polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons strongly depends on the number, position, and type of the substituents.
