Identification of running household appliances by a state-of-the-art energy meter for a change in consumption pattern

TLDR
This paper describes the development of a power measuring device (smart meter) capable of identifying the instantaneous running household loads and measurement of basic electric parameters that is exploited to estimate the load respective tariff for different Time-of-Use (TOU) of electricity for both the consumer and utility ends.
Abstract
This paper describes the development of a power measuring device (smart meter) capable of identifying the instantaneous running household loads and measurement of basic electric parameters. This real time basis load identification facility is exploited to estimate the load respective tariff for different Time-of-Use (TOU) of electricity for both the consumer and utility ends. The information regarding the ‘ON’ loads and their corresponding tariff helps the consumers to change their consumption patterns which in turn help the utility for better management of load demand.

Nonintrusive appliance load monitoring

TL;DR: In this paper, a nonintrusive appliance load monitor that determines the energy consumption of individual appliances turning on and off in an electric load, based on detailed analysis of the current and voltage of the total load, as measured at the interface to the power source is described.

Comparison of algorithms that select features for pattern classifiers

TL;DR: It is shown that sequential floating search methods are suitable for small- and medium-scale problems and genetic algorithms are suitableFor large-scale feature selection algorithms, the goodness of a feature subset is measured by leave-one-out correct-classification rate of a nearest-neighbor (1-NN) classifier.

Input feature selection for classification problems

TL;DR: It is demonstrated is that the proposed method can provide the performance of the ideal greedy selection algorithm when information is distributed uniformly and should prove to be a useful method in selecting features for classification problems.

The concept of demand-side management for electric utilities

TL;DR: Demand-side management (DSM) is the planning and implementation of those electric utility activities designed to influence customer uses of electricity in ways that will produce desired changes in the utility's load shape as discussed by the authors.

Power signature analysis

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present techniques for high-performance non-intrusive load and diagnostic monitoring and illustrate key points with results from field tests, as well as demonstrate the performance of these techniques.
