Journal ArticleDOI

Human placental Fc receptors and the trapping of immune complexes.

TL;DR: Monomeric maternal antibodies are transmitted to the fetus, but most immune complexes are trapped in the placental stroma, and the receptors responsible for trapping immune complexes appear to be Fc gamma RIa, Fc Gamma RIIa, and FcGamma RIIIa on stromal macrophages and fetal capillary endothelial cells.
Book ChapterDOI

Maternal Diseases Complicating Pregnancy: Diabetes, Tumors, Preeclampsia, Lupus Anticoagulant

TL;DR: A better understanding of the placenta could allow us better insight into the mechanisms of the effects that certain conditions have on the fetus, as well as aid in the diagnosis and knowledge of the pathogenesis of these conditions.
Journal ArticleDOI

Immunological studies on pre-eclampsia in Nigerian women.

TL;DR: It is postulated that in pre‐eclamptic conditions the significantly depressed levels of C3b inactivator could predispose to the persistence of deposited immune complexes in the kidneys, resulting in tissue damage.
Book ChapterDOI

Immunological Aspects of Eclampsia and Pre-eclampsia

TL;DR: The diagnosis of pre-eclampsia varies between different investigators — it may be a syndrome with several different aetiologies rather than a single disease entity.

The Raji cell radioimmune assay for detecting immune complexes in human sera.

TL;DR: A sensitivie and simple procedure for the detection and quantitation of soluble complement (C)- fixing immune complexes in sera of patients with various disease states has been developed by utilizing C receptors on Raji cells.

Detection of immune complexes in unheated sera by modified 125I-Clq binding test. Effect of heating on the binding of Clq by immune complexes and application of the test to systemic lupus erythematosus.

TL;DR: The modified 125I-Clq binding test was applied to the clinical investigation of 44 patients with systemic lupus erythematosus; and increased Clq binding activity (Clq-BA) was observed in 91% of the samples.
Journal ArticleDOI

Increased CSF levels of endorphines in chronic psychosis.

TL;DR: Data indicate that endorphines may reach supernormal levels in patients with chronic psychoses, and three manic-depressive cases showed abnormally high levels of endorphine fraction I in the manic phase which declined during normal or depressed phases.
Journal ArticleDOI

Beta-endorphin--induced changes in schizophrenic and depressed patients.

TL;DR: Preliminary experiments were carried out to determine whether or not morphine-like substances in blood could be treated with synthetic β-endorphin, and this preliminary report describes initial observations.
Journal ArticleDOI

Endorphins in human cerebrospinal fluid: clinical correlations to some psychotic states.

TL;DR: The significance of endorphins, endogenous morphine‐like agents, in some psychiatric disorders was investigated and samples of cerebrospinal fluid were taken from healthy volunteers and patients with schizophrenic, manic‐depressive and puerperal psychosis.
