Influence of γ irradiation upon catalytic selectivity. II: The role of Ca in the Ag catalyzed oxidation of ethylene

TLDR
In this article, calcium, present within supported Ag apparently as distinct oxide phase inclusions, is shown to be a necessary ingredient to cause yield of ethylene oxide enhancement due to pre-irradiation of said catalyst with γ rays in the presence of air.

The Mechanism of the Selective Oxidation of Ethylene to Ethylene Oxide

TL;DR: The modern petrochemical industry relies on several hydrocarbon raw materials: methane, ethylene, propylene, butene, higher olefins, and the aromatics as discussed by the authors.
Journal ArticleDOI

Oxidation of Ethylene over Silver: Adsorption, Kinetics, Catalyst

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a classical example of selectivity for partial oxidation to ethylene oxide versus complete combustion to carbon dioxide and water, which is a classic example of a selectivity problem for catalysts.

Engineering Aspects of Selective Hydrocarbon Oxidation

TL;DR: In this paper, the fundamental and industrial aspects of hetarogreous selective catalyric oxidation of hydrocarbons are presented and discussed and a review represents an attempt to offer a comprehensive critical collection of information concerning chemical reaction engineering of selective hydrocarbon catalyric oxidations.

Influence of feed water vapour on the selective oxidation of ethylene over silver catalyst

TL;DR: In this paper, the selective oxidation of ethylene over supported silver catalyst was studied in the presence of 0.2-16% feed water vapour, and the results showed that the partial oxidation of the ethylene is inhibited by water but the complete oxidation is promoted by it.

Catalysis by Solid Surfaces

TL;DR: The connections between solid-state chemistry/physics, spectroscopy, and surface physics in ultrahigh vacuum on the one hand and catalysis on the other hand are discussed in this paper.

On the influence of γ-Irradiation upon catalytic selectivity: I. Oxidation of ethylene over supported silver

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors show that the yield of ethylene oxide is significantly enhanced by pre-radiation of a 60Co γ-source, and that the effect is reversible in that reduction in H2 and reoxidation restores normal behavior and reirradiation in air restores the enhancement.

Alteration of Catalyst Surface Composition induced by γ-Irradiation

TL;DR: Carberry et al. as discussed by the authors employed ESCA to determine whether or not pre-irradiation altered the chemical composition of the silver catalyst surface and reported changes in the surface chemical composition.
