Influence of Surface Charge and Surface Structure on the Sublimation of Ionic Crystals
TLDR
In this article, the formation of charged defects in ionic crystals is accompanied by surface defects: kinks, which contribute to a Debye-Huckel charge distribution at the surface.Abstract:
The formation of charged defects in ionic crystals is shown to be accompanied by the formation of surface defects: kinks. The resultant defect pairs contribute to a Debye‐Huckel charge distribution at the surface. Surface charge, surface structure, and crystal defect equilibria are found to be interrelated and to influence sublimation rates. The theory is applied to the case of sublimation of II‐VI compounds and compared with experiments.read more

Atomic and molecular emission following fracture of alkali halides: A dislocation driven process
TL;DR: In this article, the authors present measurements of the neutral particle emission following fracture of two single crystal fcc alkali halides: NaCl and LiF, and argue that these bursts are due to energetic emergence (popout) of dislocations at free surfaces.

Crystal growth and sublimation in II–VI compounds along their polar axis
TL;DR: Polarity dependence of the crystal growth rate, sublimation rate and etching behavior for ZnO, CdSe and ZnS crystals was investigated in this article, where it was shown that in each crystal one polar surface having a higher growth rate than the other also has a higher sublimating rate.
