The interrelationship between sodium and calcium fluxes across cell membranes

TL;DR: Invertebrate Nervous Tissue and Nerves of Other Invertebrates: A Model for the Na-Ca Exchange Mechanism in Squid Axons.
Journal ArticleDOI

Permeation of calcium through excitatory amino acid receptor channels in cultured rat hippocampal neurones.

TL;DR: Type II kainate channels showed relatively poor selectivity among divalent cations, especially in cultured rat hippocampal neurones which showed a type II response, and a remarkable inward rectification was observed in the current‐voltage plots of the kainates response in control solution.
Journal ArticleDOI

Resting membrane potential, extracellular potassium activity, and intracellular sodium activity during acute global ischemia in isolated perfused guinea pig hearts.

TL;DR: The results suggest that relative potassium permeability largely predominates over relative sodium permeability during the decrease of resting membrane potential after interruption of aortic flow and active sodium-potassium exchange compensates for the rate-dependent fraction of potassium efflux and maintains a low intracellular sodium activity.
Journal ArticleDOI

A study of the ion selectivity and the kinetic properties of the calcium dependent slow inward current in mammalian cardiac muscle.

H Reuter, +1 more
TL;DR: The activation and inactivation kinetics of the slow inward current were explored in detail and related to the plateau of the action potential.
Journal ArticleDOI

Permeation of calcium ions through non-NMDA glutamate channels in retinal bipolar cells

TL;DR: In retinal bipolar cells, which lack the N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) type of glutamate-gated channel, calcium permeability through non-NMDA channels was examined and found that there is a class that is also permeable to calcium.

Evaluation of Teflon Permeation Tubes for Use with Sulfur Dioxide

TL;DR: Results indicate that Teflon permeation tubes are extremely useful for preparing accurate concentrations of atmospheric pollutants, for calibrating instruments, and for calibration of instruments.
