Lack of antigenicity of human chorionic gonadotropin in silver carp (Hypophthalmichthys molitrix) and goldfish (Carassius auratus)

TLDR
It appears that hCG may be less antigenic in fish than is commonly suggested, and that factors other than hCG antibodies contribute to ovarian refractoriness in broodstock induced to ovulate repeatedly with hCG.

Endocrine manipulations of spawning in cultured fish: from hormones to genes

TL;DR: Based on the recent discovery of GnRH multiplicity in fish and the increasing understanding of its functional significance, new GnRH agonists can be designed for more potent, affordable and physiologically-compatible spawning induction therapies.
Journal ArticleDOI

Use of GnRHa-delivery systems for the control of reproduction in fish

TL;DR: Future research should focus on the optimization of thistechnology in terms of using the mostpotent GnRHa-delivery systems, identifying the mostappropriate GnR Ha release kinetics according to the reproductive biology of different species, and determining minimum effective doses.
Journal ArticleDOI

Hormonal manipulations for the enhancement of sperm production in cultured fish and evaluation of sperm quality

TL;DR: The development of Computer-Assisted Sperm Analysis (CASA) systems made possible the estimation of a higher number of sperm motion parameters using an objective, sensitive and accurate technique, and the development of ASMA software has introduced a new approach for sperm evaluation studies.

Spawning induction of individual European sea bass females (Dicentrarchus labrax) using different GnRHa-delivery systems

TL;DR: The results indicate that, compared to a single GnRHa injection, GnR Ha-loaded microspheres can induce multiple spawns in European sea bass, without a negative effect on egg quality.
Journal ArticleDOI

Relationship between serum levels of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) and 11-ketotestosterone after a single injection of hCG and induced maturity in the male Japanese eel, Anguilla japonica

Hiromi Ohta, +1 more
- 15 Jun 1997 -
TL;DR: The results indicate that the effectiveness of a single injection of h CG in inducing spermatogenesis is affected to a considerable extent by individual differences in the clearance rates of hCG between fish.

Induced ovulation and spawning of cultured freshwater fish in China: advances in application of GnRH analogues and dopamine antagonists.

TL;DR: Although some refinement of dosages of drugs is required, the Linpe method has proven to be a highly successful procedure for induced ovulation and/or spawning of cultured freshwater fish in China.

7 Induced Final Maturation, Ovulation, and Spermiation in Cultured Fish

TL;DR: This chapter discusses induced final maturation, ovulation, and spermiation in culturedFish, which involves the manipulation of spawning time in fish, which do normally reproduce in captivity.

Applications of Endocrinology to Fish Culture

TL;DR: Endocrinology has, or may have, important applications in four major activities of fish culture viz induced breeding, larval rearing, "grow-out," and broodstock development and management.

Gonadotropin release from the pars distalis of goldfish, Carassius auratus, transplanted beside the brain or into the brain ventricles: additional evidence for gonadotropin-release-inhibitory factor

TL;DR: In sexually regressed female goldfish, GtH release from the transplanted pars distalis was not influenced by location in the brain ventricles versus beside the brain, suggesting a seasonal variation in the ability to release GTH independent of GRIF.

Manipulation of the seasonal reproductive cycle of the landlocked Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) by LHRH analogues administered at various stages of gonadal development

TL;DR: Pellets designed for continuous, long-term, oligopeptide, hormone delivery were implanted into the adult landlocked Atlantic salmon to investigate the effects of LHRH agonist analogue (LHRH-A) upon the reproductive system.
