Leaf domatia do not affect population dynamics of the predatory mite Iphiseiodes zuluagai
João A. M. Ferreira,João A. M. Ferreira,Angelo Pallini,Claudinei Lima Oliveira,Maurice W. Sabelis,Arne Janssen +5 more
TL;DR: None of the experiments showed a significant effect of domatia manipulation on mite numbers, or a significant interaction between weather parameters and domatio, suggesting that domatian did not protect against these adverse weather conditions, but perhaps domatias offer protection against hyperpredators, which were rarely observed during these experiments.

Games to Teach Mathematical Modelling
TL;DR: The use of in-class games to create realistic situations for mathematical modelling are discussed and two games are presented which are appropriate for use in post-calculus settings.

In silico analysis of antibiotic-induced Clostridium difficile infection: Remediation techniques and biological adaptations
Eric W. Jones,Jean M. Carlson +1 more
TL;DR: This paper simulates fecal transplantation, a clinically successful treatment for CDI, and discovers that both the transplant timing and transplant donor are relevant to the the efficacy of the treatment, a result which has clinical implications.

A note on obesity as epidemic in Korea.
TL;DR: Analysis of the incidence of obesity in adults aged 19–59 years in Korea and mathematical model sensitivity analysis suggests that obesity prevention strategies are more effective than obesity treatment strategies in controlling the increase of adult obesity.

Assessing the optimal virulence of malaria‐targeting mosquito pathogens: a mathematical study of engineered Metarhizium anisopliae
TL;DR: There is no obvious choice of virulence for engineered Metarhizium or similar pathogens, and that all available information regarding the population ecology of the combined mosquito‐fungus system should be carefully considered.
