TLDR
The authors found that diagnoses of chronic PTSD in combat veterans are associated with cognitive performance deficits, when comparisons are made with military troops judged to be free of stress-related psychopathology, thus highlighting the need for continued investigation of the neuropsychologlcal sequelae of prolonged stress exposure.Citations

TL;DR: An overview of the neurobiology of stress–memory interactions is provided, and a neural–endocrine model is presented to explain how stress modifies hippocampal functioning.

TL;DR: It is suggested that a decrease in left hippocampal volume is associated with abuse-related PTSD.

The effects of early relational trauma on right brain development, affect regulation, and infant mental health.
TL;DR: These findings suggest direct connections between traumatic attachment, inefficient right brain regulatory functions, and both maladaptive infant and adult mental health.

Hippocampal volume in women victimized by childhood sexual abuse.
TL;DR: The observed relationship between symptom severity and hippocampal volume suggests that mesial temporal lobe dysfunction may directly mediate certain aspects of PTSD and dissociative disorder symptomatology.
Book
Does Stress Damage the Brain
TL;DR: The possibility that experiences in the form of traumatic stressors can have long-term effects on the structure and function of the brain is introduced.
