TLDR
The characteristics of Mobile Ad hoc Networks (MANETs), and their idiosyncrasies with respect to traditional, hardwired packet networks, are described, with an emphasis on routing performance evaluation considerations.
Abstract
This memo first describes the characteristics of Mobile Ad hoc Networks (MANETs), and their idiosyncrasies with respect to traditional, hardwired packet networks. It then discusses the effect these differences have on the design and evaluation of network control protocols with an emphasis on routing performance evaluation considerations.

A novel DSR-based energy-efficient routing algorithm for mobile ad-hoc networks

TL;DR: An energy- efficient mechanism that can be used by a generic MANET routing protocol to prevent nodes from a sharp drop of battery power is described and a novel DSR-based energy-efficient routing algorithm referred to as the energy-dependent DSR (EEDSR) is proposed.

Address option for use in an internet protocol-based multimedia mobile network

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors propose a method for use in facilitating transfer of packets in an Internet Protocol (IP) based communications system, which includes the steps of inserting an address option field in a packet header of a packet to be transferred in the communications system and processing the packet within at least one of a network node and a mobile user station in the communication system in accordance with the supplemental address related data in the address option fields of the packet header.

Evaluating the energy-consumption reduction in a MANET by dynamically switching-off network interfaces

TL;DR: A power-conserving algorithm, based on the RTS/CTS dialogue of the IEEE 802.11 standard, is evaluated, which dynamically switches off the radio network interface card of nodes when they are neither transmitting nor receiving a packet.

Distributed sensor processing over an ad hoc wireless network: simulation framework and performance criteria

TL;DR: Performance criteria for distributed sensor processing over ad hoc wireless networks are stated and an architecture for analysis and simulation of this kind of system is described.

Modeling and Analysis of Trust Management for Cognitive Mission-Driven Group Communication Systems in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks

TL;DR: A trust management protocol for cognitive mission-driven group communication systems in mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) using hierarchical modeling techniques based on stochastic Petri nets is developed and it is demonstrated that an optimal trust chain exists for maximizing the trust metric.

Ad-hoc on-demand distance vector routing

TL;DR: An ad-hoc network is the cooperative engagement of a collection of mobile nodes without the required intervention of any centralized access point or existing infrastructure and the proposed routing algorithm is quite suitable for a dynamic self starting network, as required by users wishing to utilize ad- hoc networks.

DSR: the dynamic source routing protocol for multihop wireless ad hoc networks

TL;DR: The Dynamic Source Routing protocol (DSR) is a simple and efficient routing protocol designed specifically for use in multi-hop wireless ad hoc networks of mobile nodes, and a summary of some of the simulation and testbed implementation results for the protocol is provided.
