Molecular detection and genetic characterization of Bartonella species from rodents and their associated ectoparasites from northern Tanzania

TLDR
The ssrA and gltA sequences obtained from rodent spleens and sSRA sequences from fleas reveal the presence of a diverse set of Bartonella genotypes and increase the understanding of the bartonellae present in Tanzanian.
Abstract
Three excel files that include rodent, flea and genotype level data (as indicated in file names). These together provide the source data for the work presented in the paper.

Global fingerprint of humans on the distribution of Bartonella bacteria in mammals.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors analyzed the patterns of Bartonella transmission and likely sources of spillover using the largest collection of liver-gltA genotypes assembled, including 67 new genotypes.
Journal ArticleDOI

First investigation of pathogenic bacteria, protozoa and viruses in rodents and shrews in context of forest-savannah-urban areas interface in the city of Franceville (Gabon).

TL;DR: This study shows that rodents in Gabon harbor some human pathogenic bacteria and protozoans, and it is necessary to determine whether the identified microorganisms are capable of undergoing zoonotic transmission from rodents to humans and if they may be responsible for human cases of febrile disease of unknown etiology inGabon.

Emerging rodent-associated Bartonella: a threat for human health?

TL;DR: A review of Bartonellosis related to rodent-associated Bartonella spp. is presented in this article , where the authors determine explanatory factors for this unexpected finding, by taking a closer look at published clinical cases of bartonella infection connected with rodentassociated Bacillus species, some of which have been newly described in recent years.

Occurrence of Multidrug-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus among Humans, Rodents, Chickens, and Household Soils in Karatu, Northern Tanzania.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the isolation frequency and phenotypic antibiotic resistance pattern of Staphylococcus aureus isolated from rodents, chickens, humans, and household soils.

DNA sequencing with chain-terminating inhibitors

TL;DR: A new method for determining nucleotide sequences in DNA is described, which makes use of the 2',3'-dideoxy and arabinon nucleoside analogues of the normal deoxynucleoside triphosphates, which act as specific chain-terminating inhibitors of DNA polymerase.

Fitting Linear Mixed-Effects Models Using lme4

TL;DR: In this article, a model is described in an lmer call by a formula, in this case including both fixed-and random-effects terms, and the formula and data together determine a numerical representation of the model from which the profiled deviance or the profeatured REML criterion can be evaluated as a function of some of model parameters.

MEGA7: Molecular Evolutionary Genetics Analysis version 7.0 for bigger datasets

TL;DR: The latest version of the Molecular Evolutionary Genetics Analysis (Mega) software, which contains many sophisticated methods and tools for phylogenomics and phylomedicine, has been optimized for use on 64-bit computing systems for analyzing larger datasets.

Estimation of the number of nucleotide substitutions when there are strong transition-transversion and G+C-content biases.

TL;DR: A simple mathematical method is developed to estimate the number of nucleotide substitutions per site between two DNA sequences, by extending Kimura's (1980) two-parameter method to the case where a G+C-content bias exists.
