Whether the advent of a new generation of computers makes feasible a numerical attack on turbulence by direct integration of the Navier-Stokes equations by directly integrating the equations for turbulence play a major role in many problems of great practical interest.
Abstract
: Turbulent flows play a major role in many problems of great practical interest. In the report the authors consider whether the advent of a new generation of computers (Illiac IV, Star, ASC) makes feasible a numerical attack on turbulence by direct integration of the Navier-Stokes equations.

Computational Aerodynamics Development and Outlook

TL;DR: The field of computational fluid dynamics during recent years has developed sufficiently to initiate some changes in traditional methods of aerodynamic design, and numerical simulations offer the potential of mending many ills of wind-tunnel and turbomachinery experiments and of providing thereby important new technical capabilities for the aerospace industry.

A high-order semi-explicit discontinuous Galerkin solver for 3D incompressible flow with application to DNS and LES of turbulent channel flow

TL;DR: An efficient discontinuous Galerkin scheme for simulation of the incompressible Navier–Stokes equations including laminar and turbulent flow including a consistent penalty term reducing the local divergence error in order to overcome recently reported instabilities in spatially under-resolved high-Reynolds-number flows as well as small time steps.

Kinematics, Topology and Significance of Dune‐Related Macroturbulence: Some Observations from the Laboratory and Field

TL;DR: In this article, the authors used particle imaging velocimetry (PIV) to quantify the mean and turbulent flow characteristics of flow over dunes using at-a-point measurements and observed the water surface over large sand dunes in the Jamuna River, Bangladesh.

Higher-Order Methods for Compressible Turbulent Flows Using Entropy Variables

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a higher-order space-time discontinuous Galerkin method for turbulent simulations at high Reynolds numbers, with a focus on the aspects of their numerical scheme required for ensuring nonlinear stability.
