TLDR
In this article, the relations between bandlimited one-dimensional object-plane fields which yield the same intensity distribution in the Fraunhofer (Fourier transform) plane were investigated.
Abstract
We consider the relations between bandlimited one-dimensional object-plane fields which yield the same intensity distribution in the Fraunhofer (Fourier transform) plane. In the case in which the Fraunhofer-plane fields differ by the conjugation of a single zero, a simple relation results which appears useful in phase-retrieval algorithms.

The phase retrieval problem

TL;DR: In this paper, reference beam addition, apodization and the use of multiple intensity distributions have been proposed for phase retrieval in a one-dimensional field, where the phase ambiguity arises as the result of the possibilities of conjugating the zeros of F(z), z = x + jy.

A practical algorithm for the determination of phase from image and diffraction plane pictures

R. W. Gerchberg
- 01 Jan 1972 -
TL;DR: In this article, an algorithm is presented for the rapid solution of the phase of the complete wave function whose intensity in the diffraction and imaging planes of an imaging system are known.

Reconstruction of an object from the modulus of its Fourier transform.

TL;DR: A digital method for solving the phase-retrieval problem of optical-coherence theory: the reconstruction of a general object from the modulus of its Fourier transform, which should be useful for obtaining high-resolution imagery from interferometer data.

The Question of Phase Retrieval in Optics

TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that the phase information is irretrievably lost in the squaring operation required to obtain the intensity from the amplitude distribution in the image of a star formed by a lens.

The phase problem

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors discuss the use of the theory of entire functions for solving the phase problem and discuss the difficulties due to the presence of zeros in the complex plane.

Phase retrieval from modulus data

TL;DR: In this paper, the phase retrieval of a complex signal f from its modulus |f| has been studied, where an additional constraint is imposed: knowledge of the modulus of F, the Fourier transform of f. The problems of noisy data and nonuniqueness are addressed.
