TLDR
In this paper, the motion of a jet of inviscid fluid issuing from an elongated orifice in a flat sheet is considered using a system of dynamical equations obtained from a one-dimensional model.
Abstract
In 1960 Taylor discussed the motion of a jet of inviscid fluid issuing from an elongated orifice in a flat sheet, which transforms itself into a jet which is first flattened in the direction of the long axis of the orifice and then subsequently in the perpendicular direction. Such a motion is re-considered here using a system of dynamical equations obtained from a one-dimensional model.

Flow and breakup characteristics of elliptical liquid jets

TL;DR: In this paper, an experimental study on liquid jets discharging from elliptical orifices into still ambient air is presented, where the effects of the orifice aspect ratio and liquid viscosity on the axis-switching process are revealed through this study.

Capillary instability of elliptic liquid jets

TL;DR: In this article, the instability of a liquid jet issuing from an elliptic nozzle in Rayleigh mode is investigated and its behavior is compared with a circular jet, and the results reveal that the elliptic jet is more unstable.

Vertical slender jets with surface tension

TL;DR: In this article, the shape of a vertical slender jet of fluid falling steadily under the force of gravity is studied, and the problem is formulated as a nonlinear free boundary-value problem for the potential.

A direct theory of viscous fluid flow in pipes I. Basic general developments

TL;DR: In this article, a 1-1 correspondence between the lagrangian and eulerian formulae of integral balance laws of a general thermom echanical theory of directed (or Cosserat ) curve in the presence of a number of directors is established.

The Influence of Twist on the Motion of Straight Elliptical Jets.

TL;DR: In this article, a detailed analysis of the motion of a straight elliptical jet of an incompressible, inviscid fluid in which the jet is allowed to twist along its axis is presented.

Formation of thin flat sheets of water

TL;DR: In this paper, a thin plane sheet of fluid which is limited laterally and converges towards a point transforms itself into a sheet which diverges in a perpendicular plane when the angle of convergence is small and the distribution of thickness in the converging sheet is elliptic.

A General Theory of Rods

TL;DR: In this article, three main methods have been used to develop one dimensional theories of rods, mostly in the context of isothermal linear elasticity, including ad hoc assumptions which are apparently independent of any general theory.

On the Theory of Rods. II. Developments by Direct Approach

TL;DR: In this paper, the linear isothermal theory of straight isotropic rods of variable cross-section possessing two axes of symmetry was developed for torsion and flexion of non-uniform rods.

Non-isothermal theory of rods, plates and shells

TL;DR: In this paper, a detailed development of nonlinear thermodynamical theories of rods and shells is discussed using the three dimensional theory of classical continuum mechanics as a starting point, and a portion of the paper supplements and amplifies the previous work on the subject by Green, Laws and Naghdi [1].
