Abstract
In connection with the problem of submarine signalling the question arose as to the pitch of the fundamental note of a thin circular plate or diaphragm of given material and dimensions, filling an aperture in a plane wall which is in contact on one side with an otherwise unlimited mass of water. The following investigation, which includes some extensions, is now published by permission. To simplify the theoretical treatment, the wall is supposed to be rigid, and the plate to be firmly clamped to it along the circumference, although these conditions are only imperfectly fulfilled in practice. Even with these limitations an exact solution is out of the question, but a sufficient approximation can be obtained by Rayleigh’s method of an assumed type, which gives good results if the type be suitably chosen. It is known that the frequency estimated in this way will be somewhat too high.

Non-linear hydrodynamics of thin laminae undergoing large harmonic oscillations in a viscous fluid

TL;DR: In this article, the motion of a thin rigid lamina spanning large amplitudes in viscous fluids in a broad range of the oscillation frequencies is investigated. And the authors propose a novel formulation of hydrodynamic function that incorporates added mass and damping coefficients.

Vibration analysis of submerged rectangular microplates with distributed mass loading

TL;DR: In this article, the vibration characteristics of the coupling system of a micro-scale fluid-loaded rectangular isotropic plate attached to a uniformly distributed mass are investigated, and an analytical solution for the natural frequencies and mode shapes of the coupled system is presented.

Ultrasonically powered piezoelectric generators for bio-implantable sensors: Plate versus diaphragm:

TL;DR: In this paper, a comparative study of the design spaces of two bio-implantable acoustically excited generator architectures: the bulk-mode piezoelectric plate (plate) and the flexure-mode unimorphized generator (FNG).

Free vibration analysis of cantilever plate partially submerged into a fluid

TL;DR: In this paper, the free flexural vibration of a cantilever plate partially submerged in a fluid is investigated and the virtual mass matrix is derived by solving the boundary-value problem related to the fluid motion using elliptical coordinates.

Analysis of recent interpretations of the Abraham-Minkowski problem

TL;DR: In this paper, an illuminating discussion on the controversy concerning the momentum of light is presented, and subtleties on the subject are analyzed and exemplified with a critical remark on recent experiments.
