TLDR
The aim of this paper is to establish a link between PID regulators and optimal feedback design for linear systems by showing how the optimal control theory can be tailored to the design of optimal regulators.
Abstract
Tuning of three-term controllers, a widely popular device for process control, has always been accomplished by semi-empirical rules. The aim of this paper is to establish a link between PID regulators and optimal feedback design for linear systems. After showing how the optimal control theory can be tailored to the design of optimal regulators, the results are extended to the discrete-time case and the feasibility of a microprocessor implementation is assessed with the aid of benchmark tests

A Novel Infinite-Time Optimal Tracking Control Scheme for a Class of Discrete-Time Nonlinear Systems via the Greedy HDP Iteration Algorithm

TL;DR: This paper aims to solve the infinite-time optimal tracking control problem for a class of discrete-time nonlinear systems using the greedy heuristic dynamic programming (HDP) iteration algorithm, and defines a new type of performance index.

Design, implementation, and testing of an adaptable optimal controller for an electric wheelchair

TL;DR: In this article, the design, implementation, and testing of an adaptable optimal controller for an electric wheelchair is presented, which is adaptable in the sense that multiple sets of control coefficients are used with each set being optimized for a specific range of wheelchair load parameters.

Correspondence item: On the design of P-I-D controllers using optimal linear regulator theory

TL;DR: In this article, the proper formulation of a class of tracking problems, so that the solution by means of optimal linear regulator theory leads to a proportional-integral-derivative (P-I-D) type of controller is given.
