Outcomes of labours augmented with oxytocin.

TLDR
Significant improvements in the management of labours which fail to progress are needed if normal vaginal delivery rates are to approach those seen inlabours which progress without the need for augmentation.

Are animal models relevant to key aspects of human parturition

TL;DR: The application of novel concepts and new models are required to advance translational research in parturition and it is suggested that the guinea pig displays several key physiological characteristics of gestation that more closely resemble human pregnancy than do currently favored animal models.

Oxytocin versus no treatment or delayed treatment for slow progress in the first stage of spontaneous labour

TL;DR: The use of oxytocin for the treatment of slow progress in the first stage of spontaneous labour is associated with a reduction in the incidence of caesarean sections, or maternal and fetal morbidity compared to situations where it is not used or where its administration is delayed.

A computational model of the ionic currents, Ca2+ dynamics and action potentials underlying contraction of isolated uterine smooth muscle.

TL;DR: The advanced mathematical model provides a powerful tool to investigate the physiological ionic mechanisms underlying the genesis of uterine electrical E-C coupling of labor and parturition and furnish the evolution of descriptive and predictive quantitative models of myometrial electrogenesis at the whole cell and tissue levels.

Comparison between amniotomy, oxytocin or both for augmentation of labor in prolonged latent phase: a randomized controlled trial

TL;DR: Labor augmentation by combined amniotomy and oxytocin among women with a prolonged latent phase at term seems superior compared to either of them alone.
Journal ArticleDOI

Diverse definitions of prolonged labour and its consequences with sometimes subsequent inappropriate treatment

TL;DR: There is need for increased clinical skill in identification and classification of prolonged labour, in order to improve care for all women and their experiences of birthing processes regardless whether they experience a prolonged labour or not.

Risk of uterine rupture during labor among women with a prior cesarean delivery.

TL;DR: A population-based, retrospective cohort analysis using data from all primiparous women who gave birth to live singleton infants by cesarean section in civilian hospitals in Washington State from 1987 through 1996 and who delivered a second singleton child during the same period assessed the risk of uterine rupture.

Association between method of delivery and maternal rehospitalization.

TL;DR: Women with cesarean and assisted vaginal deliveries were at increased risk for rehospitalization, particularly with infectious morbidities, and effective strategies for preventing and controlling peripartum infection should be an obstetrical priority.

A Clinical Trial of Active Management of Labor

TL;DR: Active management of labor did not reduce the rate of cesarean section in nulliparous women but was associated with a somewhat shorter duration of labor and less maternal fever.
