Epidemiology of diabetic retinopathy and macular oedema: a systematic review

TL;DR: There are inconsistencies between epidemiological studies, and differences in study methods may contribute to conflicting reports of prevalence and incidence of diabetic retinopathy and macular oedema in diabetic populations.

Prevalence of diabetic retinopathy in various ethnic groups: a worldwide perspective.

TL;DR: The rates of nonproliferative diabetic retinopathy appear to be declining in the United States, supporting the observation that better medical management of diabetes and prompt treatment of sight-threatening diabetic Retinopathy substantially improve the long-term diabetic retInopathy incidence.

Cardiovascular Complications of Diabetes Mellitus in Sub-Saharan Africa

TL;DR: It is obvious that diabetes mellitus and related cardiovascular complications are gaining more importance in sub-Saharan Africa, and the relative contribution of putative risk factors is not well defined, and further research is therefore needed.

The effect of intensive treatment of diabetes on the development and progression of long-term complications in insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus.

TL;DR: Intensive therapy effectively delays the onset and slows the progression of diabetic retinopathy, nephropathy, and neuropathy in patients with IDDM.

The distribution and chemical composition of ultracentrifugally separated lipoproteins in human serum

TL;DR: The relatively low density of the lipoproteins was utilized by Lindgren, Elliott, and Gofman to separate them from the other serum proteins by ultracentrifugal flotation, and quantitation was subsequently performed by refractometric methods in the analytical ultracentRifuge.

Diabetic nephropathy in type 1 (insulin-dependent) diabetes: An epidemiological study

TL;DR: It was concluded that diabetic nephropathy is the major life threatening complication in Type I diabetes of juvenile onset and had a much poorer survival than those without proteinuria; 40 years after onset of diabetes, only 10% of patients who developed nephrophropathy were alive, whereas >70% of Patients who did not develop nephropy survived.

Radioimmunological determination of human C-peptide in serum

L. G. Heding
- 01 Dec 1975 -
TL;DR: It is suggested that displacement found with most antisera is due to substances in serum that are not related to C-peptide or proinsulin, and Serial dilutions of pancreatic extracts and sera may yield dilution curves slightly different to those of the synthetic standard.
