TLDR
In this paper, landscape architects, conservation biologists, and other groups are linking landscape design with ecosystem structure and function to create and restore habitats and reintroduce native species in cities, especially in temperate cities, where the diversity of vascular plants and birds can be higher than in the surrounding landscapes.

ANNALS of the Association of American Geographers

TL;DR: In rural and small-town Nevada, Brothels are legal or openly tolerated and strictly controlled by state statute, city and county ordinances, and local rules as discussed by the authors, and the legal and quasi-legal restrictions placed on prostitutes severely limit their activities outside brothels.

The Nature of (in) Cities

TL;DR: In this paper, an advertisement appeared in the real estate section of the Washington Post 1 promoting a new development: "The NICE THING about the city is that it eventually ends" (emphasis in original).

Unexploited opportunities in understanding liveable and biodiverse cities. A review on urban biodiversity perception and valuation

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors systematically reviewed literature on people's perception and valuation of urban biodiversity (200 studies) and quantified the outcomes of studies in terms of the effects of biodiversity on valuation for studies that addressed biodiversity valuation below the ecosystem scale.

Low impact development techniques to mitigate the impacts of climate-change-induced urban floods: Current trends, issues and challenges

TL;DR: In this article, the effectiveness of low impact development (LID) in the mitigation of urban flood is analyzed to identify their limitations and further research on the success of these techniques in urban flood mitigation planning is also recommended.

Biodiversity hotspots for conservation priorities

TL;DR: A ‘silver bullet’ strategy on the part of conservation planners, focusing on ‘biodiversity hotspots’ where exceptional concentrations of endemic species are undergoing exceptional loss of habitat, is proposed.

Diversity in tropical rain forests and coral reefs.

TL;DR: The commonly observed high diversity of trees in tropical rain forests and corals on tropical reefs is a nonequilibrium state which, if not disturbed further, will progress toward a low-diversity equilibrium community as mentioned in this paper.

Plant Strategies and Vegetation Processes

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present plant strategies in the established phase and the regenerative phase in the emerging phase, respectively, and discuss the relationship between the two phases: primary strategies and secondary strategies.

Global Change and the Ecology of Cities

TL;DR: Urban ecology integrates natural and social sciences to study these radically altered local environments and their regional and global effects of an increasingly urbanized world.

A land use and land cover classification system for use with remote sensor data

TL;DR: The framework of a national land use and land cover classification system is presented for use with remote sensor data and uses the features of existing widely used classification systems that are amenable to data derived from re-mote sensing sources.
