Free Radicals: Properties, Sources, Targets, and Their Implication in Various Diseases

TL;DR: The free radicals induced oxidative stress has been reported to be involved in several diseased conditions such as diabetes mellitus, neurodegenerative disorders, cardiovascular diseases, cardiovascular disease, respiratory diseases, cataract development, rheumatoid arthritis and in various cancers.
Journal ArticleDOI

The cellular production of hydrogen peroxide

TL;DR: The cytochrome c peroxidase assay is suitable for use with subcellular fractions from tissue homogenates as well as with pure enzyme systems to measure H(2)O( 2) generation and can be made on the basis of the rates with the isolated fractions under physiological conditions.
Journal ArticleDOI

Oxidative stress and autophagy: the clash between damage and metabolic needs

TL;DR: This review aims at providing novel insight into the regulatory pathways of autophagy in response to glucose and amino acid deprivation, as well as their tight interconnection with metabolic networks and redox homeostasis.

CORRELATED MORPHOMETRIC AND BIOCHEMICAL STUDIES ON THE LIVER CELL I. Morphometric Model, Stereologic Methods, and Normal Morphometric Data for Rat Liver

TL;DR: Stereologic methods which allow efficient and reliable quantitative evaluation of sectioned liver tissue are presented and validity and applicability of the method are discussed, and the data are compared with available information from other studies.

The large-scale separation of peroxisomes, mitochondria, and lysosomes from the livers of rats injected with triton WR-1339. Improved isolation procedures, automated analysis, biochemical and morphological properties of fractions.

TL;DR: Improved, largely automated methods are described for the purification and analysis of peroxisomes, lysosomes, and mitochondria from the livers of rats injected with Triton WR-1339, making more conclusive and precise previous estimates of the biochemical and morphological properties of the three groups of cytoplasmic particles.

Tissue fractionation studies. 6. Intracellular distribution patterns of enzymes in rat-liver tissue

TL;DR: The results are shown to favour the ferryl ion structure, or an isomer of this structure, for the higher oxidation state, and theHigher oxidation state may provisionally be named ferrylmyoglobin.

Localization of acid phosphatase activity in hepatic lysosomes by means of electron microscopy

TL;DR: The sites of reaction product of acid phosphatase activity as visualized in electron micrographs are consistent with those seen in frozen sections studied by light microscopy, and indicate that the pericanalicular bodies of parenchymatous cells, the large spherical bodies of Kupffer cells, and the microbodies appearing after bilirubin infusion and lipofuscin granules belong to the class of cytoplasmic organelles called lysosomes by

COMBINED BIOCHEMICAL AND MORPHOLOGICAL STUDY OF PARTICULATE FRACTIONS FROM RAT LIVER: Analysis of Preparations Enriched in Lysosomes or in Particles Containing Urate Oxidase, D-Amino Acid Oxidase, and Catalase

TL;DR: Six particulate preparations isolated from rat liver under different experimental conditions were analyzed biochemically and examined in the electron microscope to confirm the lysosomal nature of the pericanalicular dense bodies and demonstrate that the microbodies are the bearers of urate oxidase, catalase, and D-amino acid oxidation.
