TLDR
It is concluded that the mating trill of Rana pipiens may function as a premating isolating mechanism as predicted by the currently accepted theory.
Abstract
Playback tapes of conspecific mating trills evoked positive phonotaxis in gravid (but not ovulated) female Rana pipiens under laboratory conditions, whereas, playbacks of mating trills of Rana blairi and a putative hybrid elicited what is interpreted to be negative phonotaxis and no response, respectively. It is concluded that the mating trill of Rana pipiens may function as a premating isolating mechanism as predicted by the currently accepted theory.

Mating call selectivity in the thalamus and midbrain of the leopard frog (Rana p. pipiens): Single and multiunit analyses

TL;DR: It is suggested that these regions of the anuran auditory system show a particular preference for tone combinations which approximate the spectral energy distribution of the species mating call.

Systematics of the Rana pipiens Complex: Puzzle and Paradigm

TL;DR: For example, in this paper, it was shown that the common edible frog ("R. esculenta") is a hybridogenetic form of the Rana complex, which will considerably alter the conclusions of much of the developmental, genetic, and physiological work conducted with this species.

Investigating the viability of photo-identification as an objective tool to study endangered sea turtle populations

TL;DR: Photo-id has the benefit of being suitable for male turtles, which do not come ashore to allow conventional tagging, and so are rarely identified, and may facilitate the assessment of the numbers of male and female turtles at breeding areas and allow adult sex ratios to be measured.

Frequency selectivity in the anuran auditory midbrain: Single unit responses to single and multiple tone stimulation

TL;DR: All multiple tone responders could be totally inhibited by the addition of a single tone to the excitatory tone combination, and their possible role in the selective detection of this call is discussed.

Effects of estradiol on auditory evoked responses from the frog's auditory midbrain.

TL;DR: It is suggested that estrogen can alter the response properties of midbrain auditory neurons in frogs, and be responsible for an increase in average auditory evoked responses in Rana p.

The social behaviour of anuran amphibians

TL;DR: Temporal patterns of anuran reproduction fall into two broad categories: prolonged breeding and explosive breeding, and many aspects of vocal behaviour and chorus organization can be viewed as consequences of intrasexual competition.

Measures of Association for Cross Classifications III: Approximate Sampling Theory

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors derived large sample normal distributions with their associated standard errors for various measures of association and various methods of sampling and explained how the large sample normality may be used to test hypotheses about the measures and about differences between them, and to construct corresponding confidence intervals.

Hybridization between species of the rana pipiens complex in central texas.

TL;DR: Moore's interpretation gained wide acceptance and became a standard textbook as discussed by the authors, leading to the taxonomic lumping of many allopatric nominal species on the basis of the assumption of conspecificity, resulting in cases of what Vaurie (1955) called "pseudo-subspecies" taxonomically confused as subspecies.

Rana pipiens Complex: Mating Call Structure and Taxonomy

TL;DR: Geographic variability in call structure indicates that four largely allopatric populations of leopard frogs are present in the central United States, and it is suggested that the four forms represent distinct species and that the idea of gradual clinal variability in one wide-ranging species is wrong.
