A novel synthesis of 1,3-dioxoles (6a), (6b) and (7a-d) by the action of diphenylmethylenetriphenylphosphorane (1) and fluorenylidenetriphenylphosphoranes (2) on tetrahalo-o-benzoquinones (5) is reported.
