TLDR
The Thriasian Plain near Athens in Greece is a site of concentrated industrial development as discussed by the authors, and total concentrations of Pb, Cd, Zn, Cr and S in samples of olive leaves from the same area were found to be, respectively, 4-40, 3-10, 3 -9, 2-6 and 17-21 times higher than those found in samples from rural sites.
Abstract
The Thriasian Plain near Athens in Greece is a site of concentrated industrial development. Total concentrations of Pb, Cd and extractable SO4 2− in surface soil samples collected from this area, were found to be, respectively, 2–7, 6–34 and 2–20 times higher than those in similar soil samples from parts of the country remote from industrial activity. Total concentrations of Pb, Cd, Zn, Cr and S in samples of olive leaves from the same area were found to be, respectively, 4–40, 3–10, 3–9, 2–6 and 17–21 times higher than those found in samples of olive leaves from rural sites. Leaves of cabbages growing in the area contained between 0.82 and 40 μg/g (wet weight) of Pb. Addition of Cd, Ni and Cu to a calcareous potted soil at concentrations of 100, 200 and 200 ppm increased the concentrations of the metals in the needles of Aleppo pine (Pinus halepensis) seedlings to 4.5, 3.5 and 10 ppm, respectively, after 7 months growth in the nursey.

Total and available heavy metal concentrations in soils of the Thriassio plain (Greece) and assessment of soil pollution indexes.

TL;DR: The evaluation of the EF and AR data sets for the soils of the two towns further supports the argument that the EFs can well demonstrate the long-term history of soil pollution and that the ARs can adequately portray the recent history of soils pollution.

Heavy metals in street dust in bursa, turkey

TL;DR: In this article, the trace element contents of street dust samples collected from streets in the Bursa City, Turkey, have been determined by flame-atomic absorption spectrometry after digestion with aqua regia.

Trace Metal Biomonitoring in the Soil and the Leaves of Quercus Ilex in the Urban Area of Naples

TL;DR: A positive correlation between leaf and soil metal content was found only for Pb, thus suggesting that trace metal contents of leaves directly depend on atmospheric depositions.

Total and extractable contents of trace metals in agricultural soils of the Valderas area, Spain.

TL;DR: The surface horizons of four agricultural field soils were sampled to determine the total copper, cobalt, molybdenum, zinc, chromium, nickel, selenium, cadmium, lead, mercury, lithium and strontium, and were also fractionated by an extraction procedure to estimate the quantities of these trace metals in soluble form.

The Environmental Impact of a Complex Hydrogeological System on Hydrocarbon-Pollutants’ Natural Attenuation: The Case of the Coastal Aquifers in Eleusis, West Attica, Greece

TL;DR: The spatial distribution of BTEX in groundwaters showed that they were concentrated mainly in four rather restricted locations, as expected, in the close vicinity of known pollution sources (a military airfield and two crude oil refineries). The other one corresponds to an abandoned site with no outstanding pollution sources where wells exist, eventually used for illegal dumping of oily wastes as discussed by the authors.

Growth and Cadmium Accumulation of Plants Grown on a Soil Treated with a Cadmium-Enriched Sewage Sludge

TL;DR: In this article, CdSO-sensitive plants such as corn, wheat, rice, field bean, soybean, cabbage, spinach, lettuce, curlycress, carrot, turnip, radish, tomato, and squash plants were grown to commercial harvest stage using as the substrate, soil pre-treated with a municipal sewage sludge (1%) containing variable amounts of cdSO₄ up to 640 µg Cd/g soil.

TL;DR: In this article, the Cd concentration in 10 plant species grown in a neutral surface soil (0.65 ppm Cd) varied from 0.18 ppm in potato tubers to 0.99 ǫppm in soybean roots on a dry matter basis.

Lead quantities in plants, soil, and air near some major highways in southern california

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated 27 consumer-cops and planters located close to major highways in Southern California and found that the majority of the lead collisions were caused by the presence of lead-contaminated soil.
