Physical and mechanical metallurgy of Ni3Al and its alloys

TL;DR: The physical and mechanical metallurgy of Ni3Al and its alloys is reviewed in this article, focusing on developments within the past five years, a period of extremely rapid growth in research on the behaviour of this unusually interesting intermetallic compound.
Journal ArticleDOI

Application of the embedded atom method to Ni 3 Al

TL;DR: In this article, Daw and Baskes used the embedded atom method to calculate phase stability, lattice vibrational frequencies, point defect properties, antiphase boundary energies, and surface energies and relaxations for Ni3Al.
Journal ArticleDOI

Amorphization of intermetallic compounds under irradiation - A review

TL;DR: In this paper, a review of the field of irradiation-induced amorphization of intermetallic compounds is presented, including an update of recent experimental results using in-situ particle irradiation showing the effects of dose rate, temperature, crystal orientation, electron energy and the presence of stacking faults.
Journal ArticleDOI

Tracer diffusion in pure and boron-doped Ni3Al☆☆☆

TL;DR: In this paper, the diffusivities of polycrystalline Ni3Al intermetallic compounds were measured using both conventional grinding and ion beam sputtering techniques, showing that antisite defects are prevailing on both sides of stoichiometry at low temperature.
Journal ArticleDOI

Self‐Diffusion of Ni in Single and Polycrystals of Ni3Al. A Study of SIMS and Radiotracer Analysis

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors measured the diffusion of nickel in the intermetallic compound Ni 3 Al in the temperature range from 1004 to 1422 K by applying two different techniques for the determination of the concentration profiles.

Effect of boron on grain-boundaries in Ni3Al†

TL;DR: In this paper, the effects of boron additions on grain-boundary chemistry and tensile properties of Ni3Al containing 24-26 at.% Al were studied, and the results suggest that alloy stoichiometry strongly influences grain-body chemistry, which in turn affects the grainboundary cohesion.

Positronfit Extended: A New Version of a Program for Analysing Positron Lifetime Spectra

TL;DR: The POSITRONFIT EXTENDED extended version of this program is available from the CPC Program Library, Queen's Uni, Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Canada.
Journal ArticleDOI

Diffusion of nickel in alloys based on the intermetallic compound Ni3Al(γ

TL;DR: The diffusion coefficient of Ni3Al and Ni3(Al) has been measured as a function of temperature and composition as mentioned in this paper, and the diffusion coefficient is insensitive to both titanium additions and deviations from stoichiometry.
