Variação temporal na prevalência do excesso de peso e obesidade em adultos: Brasil, 2006 a 2009
Denise Petrucci Gigante,Giovanny Vinícius Araújo de França,Luciana Monteiro Vasconcelos Sardinha,Betine Pinto Moehlecke Iser,Gustavo Velásquez Meléndez +4 more
TL;DR: The results in this study confirmed the urgent need for effective prevention and control measures, as the increasing trend is occurring in a short period of time, especially among youngsters.
Journal ArticleDOI
Overweight and waist circumference among Norwegian 11-year-olds and associations with reported parental overweight and waist circumference: The HEIA study.
Mona Bjelland,Nanna Lien,Ingunn Holden Bergh,May Grydeland,Sigmund A. Anderssen,Knut-Inge Klepp,Yngvar Ommundsen,Lene Frost Andersen +7 more
TL;DR: There was a social gradient in anthropometric characteristics and overweight rates among Norwegian 11-year-old adolescents and the results indicate that mothers are key persons in prevention of overweight among adolescents, despite gender.
Journal ArticleDOI
The centre for healthy weights--shapedown BC: a family-centered, multidisciplinary program that reduces weight gain in obese children over the short-term.
Constadina Panagiotopoulos,Rebecca Ronsley,Mohammed Al-Dubayee,Rollin Brant,Boris Kuzeljevic,Erin Rurak,Arlene Cristall,Glynis Marks,Penny Sneddon,Mary Hinchliffe,Jean-Pierre Chanoine,Louise C. Mâsse +11 more
TL;DR: While short-term evaluation revealed significant improvements in adiposity, PA, and psychological measures, the lack of full follow-up is a limitation in interpreting the clinical effectiveness of this program, as drop-out may be associated with lack of success in meeting program goals.
Journal ArticleDOI
When does severe childhood obesity become a child protection issue
TL;DR: Guidelines on the point at which medical practitioners should seek state assistance in cases of severe childhood obesity would be helpful, not only for medical practitioners, but also for child protection services.
Journal ArticleDOI
Obese parents – obese children? Psychological-psychiatric risk factors of parental behavior and experience for the development of obesity in children aged 0–3: study protocol
Matthias Grube,Sarah Bergmann,Anja Keitel,Katharina Herfurth-Majstorovic,Verena Wendt,Kai von Klitzing,Annette M. Klein +6 more
TL;DR: It is described infants’ weight development over time and identified risk and protective factors for the incidence of childhood obesity to lay the foundation for an intervention/prevention program.

Longitudinal data analysis using generalized linear models
Kung Yee Liang,Scott L. Zeger +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, an extension of generalized linear models to the analysis of longitudinal data is proposed, which gives consistent estimates of the regression parameters and of their variance under mild assumptions about the time dependence.
Journal ArticleDOI
Increasing Prevalence of Overweight Among US Adults: The National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys, 1960 to 1991
TL;DR: Observed trends in overweight prevalence and body mass index of the US adult population suggest that the Healthy People 2000 objective of reducing the prevalence of overweight US adults to no more than 20% may not be met by the year 2000.
Journal ArticleDOI
Long-term morbidity and mortality of overweight adolescents. A follow-up of the Harvard Growth Study of 1922 to 1935.
TL;DR: Overweight in adolescence predicted a broad range of adverse health effects that were independent of adult weight after 55 years of follow-up and was a more powerful predictor of these risks than overweight in adulthood.
Journal ArticleDOI
Body weight and mortality among women
JoAnn E. Manson,Walter C. Willett,Meir J. Stampfer,Graham A. Colditz,David J. Hunter,Susan E. Hankinson,Charles H. Hennekens,Frank E. Speizer +7 more
TL;DR: A J-shaped relation between body-mass index and overall mortality is observed and when women who had never smoked were examined separately, no increase in risk was observed among the leaner women, and a more direct relation between weight and mortality emerged.
Journal ArticleDOI
Do Obese Children Become Obese Adults? A Review of the Literature
TL;DR: Although the correlations between anthropometric measures of obesity in childhood and those in adulthood varied considerably among studies, the associations were consistently positive and the risk of adult obesity was at least twice as high for obese children as for nonobese children.
