The Effect of Food and Beverage Prices on Children's Weights
Minh Wendt,Jessica E. Todd +1 more
TL;DR: This report explores the effect of food prices on children’s Body Mass Index (BMI) using data from the Early Childhood Longitudinal Study, Kindergarten Class of 1998-99 (ECLS-K) and the Quarterly Food-at-Home Price Database.
Journal ArticleDOI
Relationship between physical activity measured using accelerometers and energy expenditure measured using doubly labelled water in Indian children.
Ghattu V. Krishnaveni,Sargoor R. Veena,Rebecca Kuriyan,R P Kishore,Andrew K Wills,M Nalinakshi,Sarah H Kehoe,Caroline H.D. Fall,Anura V Kurpad +8 more
TL;DR: Activity measured using Actigraph accelerometers was not related to TEE and PAL derived using the DLW technique in children in Mysore, suggesting Actigraphs may not be useful in predicting EE in this setting, but may be better used for judging activity patterns.
Journal ArticleDOI
Child and Adolescent Affective and Behavioral Distress and Elevated Adult Body Mass Index.
TL;DR: Data from a 20-year longitudinal study examining the relations between symptoms of conduct disorder, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, and depression during late childhood and mid-adolescence and BMI during emerging adulthood suggests that childhood and adolescent problems may influence adult BMI through direct impacts on adolescent overweight, a condition which then persists into adulthood.
Journal ArticleDOI
Relations of dietary restraint and depressive symptomatology to loss of control over eating in overweight youngsters
TL;DR: It can be concluded that in general, the main components to maintain the bulimic cycle in eating disordered patients operate in a similar way to maintain loss of control over eating in overweight youngsters.
Journal ArticleDOI
Developing an award program for children's settings to support healthy eating and physical activity and reduce the risk of overweight and obesity
TL;DR: Kids - 'Go for your life' used an award program, based on a health promoting schools approach, which was demonstrated to be a suitable model to engage ECS and PS and was acceptable and feasible to create policy and practise changes to support healthy eating and physical activity for children.

Longitudinal data analysis using generalized linear models
Kung Yee Liang,Scott L. Zeger +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, an extension of generalized linear models to the analysis of longitudinal data is proposed, which gives consistent estimates of the regression parameters and of their variance under mild assumptions about the time dependence.
Journal ArticleDOI
Increasing Prevalence of Overweight Among US Adults: The National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys, 1960 to 1991
TL;DR: Observed trends in overweight prevalence and body mass index of the US adult population suggest that the Healthy People 2000 objective of reducing the prevalence of overweight US adults to no more than 20% may not be met by the year 2000.
Journal ArticleDOI
Long-term morbidity and mortality of overweight adolescents. A follow-up of the Harvard Growth Study of 1922 to 1935.
TL;DR: Overweight in adolescence predicted a broad range of adverse health effects that were independent of adult weight after 55 years of follow-up and was a more powerful predictor of these risks than overweight in adulthood.
Journal ArticleDOI
Body weight and mortality among women
JoAnn E. Manson,Walter C. Willett,Meir J. Stampfer,Graham A. Colditz,David J. Hunter,Susan E. Hankinson,Charles H. Hennekens,Frank E. Speizer +7 more
TL;DR: A J-shaped relation between body-mass index and overall mortality is observed and when women who had never smoked were examined separately, no increase in risk was observed among the leaner women, and a more direct relation between weight and mortality emerged.
Journal ArticleDOI
Do Obese Children Become Obese Adults? A Review of the Literature
TL;DR: Although the correlations between anthropometric measures of obesity in childhood and those in adulthood varied considerably among studies, the associations were consistently positive and the risk of adult obesity was at least twice as high for obese children as for nonobese children.
