Journal ArticleDOI
Prediction of obesity from infancy to adolescence.
TL;DR: To examine the development of childhood obesity and to determine the earliest age when estimating body mass using only weight and height data is associated with a corresponding estimate at the age of 15.
Journal ArticleDOI
Determinants of childhood obesity among basic school children aged 6 - 12 years in Tamale Metropolis
Nafiu Amidu,W. K. B. A. Owiredu,M. Saaka,Lawrence Quaye,M. Wanwan,P. D. Kumibea,F. M. Zingina,Victor Mogre +7 more
TL;DR: High prevalence of obesity/overweight was associ-ated with attending a private school, high level of parental education, playing computer/video games and eating food at the school canteen, and more children in the private schools than in the public schools.
Journal ArticleDOI
Analysis of MMP2 promoter polymorphisms in childhood obesity.
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that an MMP-2 promoter haplotype is associated with PBF in New Zealand 7 year old children.
A Study on the Prevalence of Overweight and Obesity among Medical Students of Kanchipuram District
TL;DR: A high prevalence of obesity and overweight among medical students is shown and girls had significant increased and substantial risk for co morbid conditions than boys and frequency of eating fatty food was high among over weight and obese individuals.
Journal ArticleDOI
Patterns of surgical weight loss and resolution of metabolic abnormalities in superobese bariatric adolescents.
Ai Xuan Holterman,Mark J. Holterman,Allen Browne,Steve Henriques,Grace Guzman,Giamila Fantuzzi +5 more
TL;DR: The SO adolescents demonstrate equivalent short-term weight loss and improved quality of life but delayed metabolic response to a gastric banding-based weight loss treatment program compared with MO patients, illustrating the importance of early referral for timely intervention of MO patients.

Longitudinal data analysis using generalized linear models
Kung Yee Liang,Scott L. Zeger +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, an extension of generalized linear models to the analysis of longitudinal data is proposed, which gives consistent estimates of the regression parameters and of their variance under mild assumptions about the time dependence.
Journal ArticleDOI
Increasing Prevalence of Overweight Among US Adults: The National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys, 1960 to 1991
TL;DR: Observed trends in overweight prevalence and body mass index of the US adult population suggest that the Healthy People 2000 objective of reducing the prevalence of overweight US adults to no more than 20% may not be met by the year 2000.
Journal ArticleDOI
Long-term morbidity and mortality of overweight adolescents. A follow-up of the Harvard Growth Study of 1922 to 1935.
TL;DR: Overweight in adolescence predicted a broad range of adverse health effects that were independent of adult weight after 55 years of follow-up and was a more powerful predictor of these risks than overweight in adulthood.
Journal ArticleDOI
Body weight and mortality among women
JoAnn E. Manson,Walter C. Willett,Meir J. Stampfer,Graham A. Colditz,David J. Hunter,Susan E. Hankinson,Charles H. Hennekens,Frank E. Speizer +7 more
TL;DR: A J-shaped relation between body-mass index and overall mortality is observed and when women who had never smoked were examined separately, no increase in risk was observed among the leaner women, and a more direct relation between weight and mortality emerged.
Journal ArticleDOI
Do Obese Children Become Obese Adults? A Review of the Literature
TL;DR: Although the correlations between anthropometric measures of obesity in childhood and those in adulthood varied considerably among studies, the associations were consistently positive and the risk of adult obesity was at least twice as high for obese children as for nonobese children.
