Low-income, African American Adolescent Mothers and Their Toddlers Exhibit Similar Dietary Variety Patterns
Mia A. Papas,Kristen M. Hurley,Anna M. Quigg,Anna M. Quigg,Sarah E. Oberlander,Sarah E. Oberlander,Maureen M. Black +6 more
TL;DR: Toddlerhood is an optimal time to address healthful dietary patterns and to help adolescent mothers influence grocery purchasing decisions and to establish healthful nutritional patterns and reduce pediatric obesity.
Journal ArticleDOI
Body image concerns and reduced breastfeeding duration in primiparous overweight and obese women
Laura E. Hauff,Ellen W. Demerath +1 more
TL;DR: To test differences in breastfeeding duration by prepregnant maternal weight status, and to determine whether body image concerns mediate any differences, data are collected on breastfeeding duration and weight status during pregnancy.
Journal ArticleDOI
How much should we invest in preventing childhood obesity
TL;DR: Nine scenarios that assume three different degrees of reduction in obesity/overweight rates among children in three age groups are presented and a mathematical model was used to project lifetime health and economic gains.
Journal ArticleDOI
BMI Changes During Childhood and Adolescence as Predictors of Amount of Adult Subcutaneous and Visceral Adipose Tissue in Men: The GOOD Study
Jenny M. Kindblom,Mattias Lorentzon,Åsa Hellqvist,Lars Lönn,John Brandberg,Staffan Nilsson,Ensio Norjavaara,Claes Ohlsson +7 more
TL;DR: The amount of visceral adipose tissue in young adult men was associated with BMI changes specifically during adolescence, whereas the amount of subcutaneous adiposeilage was associatedwith BMI changes during both late childhood and adolescence.
Journal ArticleDOI
Determinants of Childhood Obesity and Association with Maternal Perceptions of Their Children's Weight Status: The “GENESIS” Study
Yannis Manios,George Moschonis,Evangelia Grammatikaki,Anastasia Anastasiadou,Theodoros Liarigkovinos +4 more
TL;DR: Rapid infancy weight gain and higher parental BMI were the main determinants of obesity in preschool years and maternal underestimation of children's weight status was more likely for children with rapid weight gain in infancy.

Longitudinal data analysis using generalized linear models
Kung Yee Liang,Scott L. Zeger +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, an extension of generalized linear models to the analysis of longitudinal data is proposed, which gives consistent estimates of the regression parameters and of their variance under mild assumptions about the time dependence.
Journal ArticleDOI
Increasing Prevalence of Overweight Among US Adults: The National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys, 1960 to 1991
TL;DR: Observed trends in overweight prevalence and body mass index of the US adult population suggest that the Healthy People 2000 objective of reducing the prevalence of overweight US adults to no more than 20% may not be met by the year 2000.
Journal ArticleDOI
Long-term morbidity and mortality of overweight adolescents. A follow-up of the Harvard Growth Study of 1922 to 1935.
TL;DR: Overweight in adolescence predicted a broad range of adverse health effects that were independent of adult weight after 55 years of follow-up and was a more powerful predictor of these risks than overweight in adulthood.
Journal ArticleDOI
Body weight and mortality among women
JoAnn E. Manson,Walter C. Willett,Meir J. Stampfer,Graham A. Colditz,David J. Hunter,Susan E. Hankinson,Charles H. Hennekens,Frank E. Speizer +7 more
TL;DR: A J-shaped relation between body-mass index and overall mortality is observed and when women who had never smoked were examined separately, no increase in risk was observed among the leaner women, and a more direct relation between weight and mortality emerged.
Journal ArticleDOI
Do Obese Children Become Obese Adults? A Review of the Literature
TL;DR: Although the correlations between anthropometric measures of obesity in childhood and those in adulthood varied considerably among studies, the associations were consistently positive and the risk of adult obesity was at least twice as high for obese children as for nonobese children.
