Journal ArticleDOI
GABA-mediated control of transient signals in the inner retina.
TL;DR: The effects of picrotoxin and bicuculline on the time course and input-output relation of the PNR suggest that processes involving GABA may regulate the transformation from sustained to transient signals which occurs in the inner retina.
Journal ArticleDOI
Spatio-temporal variables in the relationship of neuronal activity to potassium and glial responses
TL;DR: The light-evoked increase in [K’], in the proximal retina shows a close correspondence to glial polarization and to slow extracellular potentials, and additional evidence suggests that certain cells-the transiently responding on/o&neurons of the proxiesimal retina-are the primary source of the observed changes in [ K’]e.
Book ChapterDOI
chapter 3 Development of Specific Synaptic Networks in Organotypic CNS Tissue Cultures
TL;DR: This chapter emphasizes recent studies with several types of co-cultures that appear to be particularly useful for analyses of neuronal specificity mechanisms in the central nervous system (CNS).
Journal ArticleDOI
Peripheral mechanisms of vision
TL;DR: This r eview is concerned with r ecent studies1 o f the vert ebrate retina, particularly those reporting microelectrode investigations of unit responses and anatomical studies o f retinal cytoarchitecture and synapses, which suggest a more precise appr eciation than pr eviously possibl e of th e rol e pl ay ed by a giv en n euron al r espons e in the functional organization of the r etina.
