TLDR
Results from DBM batches, originating from five established Bone Banks, showed good consistency between in vitro and in vivo assays, however, DBM activity varied widely from bank to bank as well as from batch to batch within the same bank.

Delivery system attachment

TL;DR: In this paper, a covering for delivering a substance or material to a surgical site is provided, with substance provided therein, may be referred to as a delivery system, and the covering may participate in, control, or otherwise adjust, the release of the substance.

Osteoinductive biomaterials: current knowledge of properties, experimental models and biological mechanisms.

TL;DR: The properties of osteoinductive biomaterials are reviewed, in the light of the model and the conditions under which they were tested, to give an insight into the biological processes governing osteo Induction by biommaterials and the view on the future perspectives in this research field.

Ectopic bone formation by microporous calcium phosphate ceramic particles in sheep muscles.

TL;DR: The overall results therefore confirmed the presence of mature bone after intramuscular implantation of MBCP granules, and the different hypotheses explaining ectopic bone formation induced by MBCp granules are discussed.

Bone Matrix Compositions and Methods

TL;DR: An osteoinductive composition, corresponding osteoimplants, and methods for making the osteo-inductive composites are disclosed in this article, where the authors present an osteoimplant, which can induce at the locus of the implant the full developmental cascade of endochondral bone formation including vascularization, mineralization and bone marrow differentiation.

Bone: Formation by Autoinduction

TL;DR: Differentiation of the osteoprogenitor cell is elicited by local alterations in cell metabolic cycles that are as yet uncharacterized and may transfer collagenolytic activity to the substrate to cause dissolution of the matrix.

Bone morphogenetic protein-2 converts the differentiation pathway of C2C12 myoblasts into the osteoblast lineage.

TL;DR: Results indicate that BMP-2 specifically converts the differentiation pathway of C2C12 myoblasts into that of osteoblast lineage cells, but that the conversion is not heritable.

Bone morphogenetic proteins: from basic science to clinical applications.

TL;DR: The role of bone matrix as a repository of BMPs is described and some of this new information may be of clinical relevance because it suggests potential therapeutic approaches to enhance or suppress new bone formation.

Characterization of bone morphogenetic protein-6 signaling pathways in osteoblast differentiation.

TL;DR: The findings indicate that in the process of differentiation to osteoblasts, BMP-6 binds to ALK-2 as well as other type I receptors, and transduces signals mainly through Smad5 and possibly throughSmad1.
