In this paper, an optical heterodyne polarization interferometer is described for the precision measurement of the change in the state of polarization of a light wave induced by polarizing optical devices.
Abstract
We describe an optical heterodyne polarization interferometer that can be efficiently used for the precision measurement of the change in the state of polarization of a light wave induced by polarizing optical devices. This technique is used to measure the change with wavelength of the phase retardation of a quarter-wave plate. A theor- etical derivation is presented to permit computation of the wavelength dependence of the phase shift induced by a quarter-wave plate.

Direct measurement of refractive indices (ne, no) of a linear birefringent retardation plate

TL;DR: In this paper, an optical heterodyne interferometer, in which a common path loop of P and S waves is designed to directly measure the phase retardation of the wave plate versus the azimuth angle, is set up.

Efficient tuneable bandwidth frequency mixing using chirped pulses

TL;DR: In this paper, a series of experiments of type II mixing of previously chirped 50 fs pulses were conducted and it was found that if the input pulses have chirps of opposite sign, the bandwidth of the generated pulse can be broader than that with transform limited input pulses under some conditions and significantly narrower under others.

Effect of elliptical birefringence on the measurement of the phase retardation of a quartz wave plate by an optical heterodyne polarimeter

TL;DR: In this article, a polarized optical heterodyne interferometer with a common path configuration was used to measure the linear phase retardation of λ/4 quartz wave plate, taking the elliptical birefringence into consideration.
