TLDR
The purpose of this paper is to highlight some recent enhancements that have been made to the Navier-Stokes code OVERFLOW, in three major areas: a multigrid method, for convergence acceleration; a lowMach preconditioning algorithm, for converge acceleration and solution quality improvement for low Mach number flows; and a matrix dissipation algorithm for solution quality improved.Abstract:
The purpose of this paper is to highlight some recent enhancements that have been made to the Navier-Stokes code OVERFLOW. The enhancements we are concerned with are in three major areas: a multigrid method, for convergence acceleration; a lowMach preconditioning algorithm, for convergence acceleration and solution quality improvement for low Mach number flows; and a matrix dissipation algorithm for solution quality improvement. We will describe these methods and show examples of their efficacy.read more

The Development of Numerical Fluid Mechanics and Aerodynamics since the 1960s: US and Canada
TL;DR: This paper presents a meta-modelling architecture suitable for high-performance computing of CFD systems using Euler and Navier-Stokes models, as well as several other models developed during the 1990’s and beyond.

Experimental and simulated control of lift using trailing edge devices
TL;DR: In this paper, two active aerodynamic load control (AALC) devices coupled with a control algorithm are shown to decrease the change in lift force experienced by an airfoil during a change in freestream velocity.

Adaptive Mesh and Overlapping Grid Methods
TL;DR: Adaptive mesh refinement (AMR) is a technique used in computational fluid dynamics to add fine grid patches to regions of the flow where more resolution is needed, such as near shocks and detonations.

An Introduction to Multigrid Methods
TL;DR: These notes were written for an introductory course on the application of multigrid methods to elliptic and hyperbolic partial differential equations for engineers, physicists and applied mathematicians, restricting ourselves to finite volume and finite difference discretization.

A diagonal form of an implicit approximate-factorization algorithm
Thomas H. Pulliam,D.S Chaussee +1 more
TL;DR: The modification transforms the coupled system of equations into an uncoupled diagonal form that requires less computational work and has an important effect on the application of implicit finite-difference schemes to vector processors.

Preconditioned methods for solving the incompressible low speed compressible equations
TL;DR: It is sown that the resultant incompressible equations form a symmetric hyperbolic system and so are well posed, and several generalizations to the compressible equations are presented which extend previous results.

A 3-D Chimera Grid Embedding Technique
TL;DR: A three-dimensional (3-D) chimera grid-embedding technique that simplifies the construction of computational grids about complex geometries by solution of the Euler equations for the transonic flow about a wing/body, wing/ body/tail, and a configuration of three ellipsoidal bodies is described.
