In this article, the leakage inductance parameters of a power transformer are calculated by energy method depending on the relationship that the value of leakage induction relies on dimensions and positions of transformer windings.
Abstract
Transformers are required to demonstrate the operative ability by analysis of electromagnetic characteristic and parameters calculation, and it is difficult to describe the winding deformation quantitatively. Based on finite element method (FEM), the model comprising iron-core and windings is shown. In this paper, the electromagnetic characteristic is analyzed by coupled field-circuit, and the leakage inductance parameters of power transformer are calculated by energy method. Depending on the relationship that the value of leakage inductance relies on dimensions and positions of transformer windings, the simulation models of different deformation are described by changing winding physical dimension and the values of leakage inductance in these conditions are presented by the software ANSYS. The test results of ANSYS simulation indicate that the accuracy of proposed algorithms is high and the change of parameter can successfully detect if and how the windings have occurred deformation.

Sensitivity of Leakage Inductance for Detecting Winding Movements in Transformers

TL;DR: It was found that leakage inductance is affected by large movements in the axial direction while it was found to be practically insensitive to small axial movements, which indicates that asymmetry introduced by the movement of windings makes a transformer vulnerable to short-circuit forces and therefore diagnosing the severity of such movements is crucial.
