TLDR
In this paper, a method was proposed for the determination of nicotine and cotinine in human urine, plasma and saliva, and the results showed that through the accurate determination of cotinines in saliva, the risk of ETS-exposed human can be predicted.

Biomarkers of oxidative damage in cigarette smokers: which biomarkers might reflect acute versus chronic oxidative stress?

TL;DR: It is confirmed that certain oxidative damage biomarkers are elevated in smokers even after a period of abstinence from smoking, whereas these plus some others are elevated after acute smoking.

Bioanalytical procedures for monitoring in utero drug exposure.

TL;DR: Bioanalytical methods for in utero drug exposure monitoring for common drugs of abuse in urine, hair, oral fluid, blood, sweat, meconium, amniotic fluid, umbilical cord tissue, nails, and vernix caseosa are reviewed; neonatal matrices are particularly emphasized.

Measuring tobacco smoke exposure: quantifying nicotine/cotinine concentration in biological samples by colorimetry, chromatography and immunoassay methods.

TL;DR: Methods to assess tobacco smoke exposure and biomarkers used for determining the smoking status of an individual are compared and cortisol, a stress hormone speculated to be linked to nicotine metabolism, is discussed.

Improved gas chromatographic method for the determination of nicotine and cotinine in biologic fluids

TL;DR: Improved methods have been developed for the determination of nicotine and its major metabolite, cotinine, in blood, plasma, and urine samples by utilizing gas chromatography with alkali flame ionization (nitrogen--phosphorus) detection and structural analogs of Nicotine and cotinines as internal standards.
