In this article, a new model of positronium (Ps) formation is proposed, which is based on a reaction between a positron and an electron in the positron spur.Abstract:
A new model of positronium (Ps) formation is proposed. Positronium is assumed to be formed by a reaction between a positron and an electron in the positron spur. Ps formation must compete with electron‐ion recombination and electron or positron reactions with solvent molecules and scavenger impurities. It is also influenced by electron and positron solvation. The model correlates the measured Ps formation probabilities with the spur electron properties determined in radiation chemistry. The predictions of the model are shown to be in good agreement with experimental results for liquids and solids.read more

The production of molecular positronium

TL;DR: It is found that when intense positron bursts are implanted into a thin film of porous silica, Ps2 is created on the internal pore surfaces much more efficiently than the competing process of spin exchange quenching, which appears to be suppressed in the confined pore geometry.

Perspective of Positron Annihilation Spectroscopy in Polymers
TL;DR: Positron annihilation spectroscopy (PAS) is a novel method that provides molecular-level information about complex macromolecular structure in a manner different from, but complementary to, conventional physical and chemical methodology as mentioned in this paper.

Carbohydrate polymers in amorphous states: an integrated thermodynamic and nanostructural investigation
TL;DR: A novel model of plasticization of carbohydrate polymers by water is proposed in which the water dynamically disrupts chains the hydrogen bonding between the carbohydrates, leading to an expansion of the matrix originating at the nanolevel and increasing the number of degrees of freedom of the carbohydrate chains.

Positronium Annihilation in Molecular Substances
TL;DR: The behavior of the Ps atom in molecular substances, particularly liquids, is investigated in this article, where the pickoff rates of oPs in various liquid compounds are found to have a simple empirical relationship to the values of the surface tension of the liquids.

Positron studies of condensed matter
TL;DR: In this article, a review of the use of the positron-electron annihilation phenomenon in the physics of condensed matter is presented, where the theory of the annihilation process is outlined, the importance of the two-photon mode of decay is established, and the observable results depend on the initial positron and electron states of the system.
