A method is developed for calculating the effects of a strong oscillating field on two states of a quantum-mechanical system which are connected by a matrix element of the field. Explicit approximate solutions are obtained for a variety of special cases, and the results of numerical computations are given for others. The effect of an rf field on the $J=2\ensuremath{\rightarrow}1$ $l$-type doublet microwave absorption lines of OCS has been studied in particular both experimentally and theoretically. Each line was observed to split into two components when the frequency of the rf field was near 12.78 Mc or 38.28 Mc, which are the frequencies separating the $J=1$ and $J=2$ pairs of levels, respectively. By measuring the rf frequency, ${\ensuremath{\nu}}_{0}$, at which the microwave lines are split into two equally intense components, one may determine the separation between the energy levels. The measured value of ${\ensuremath{\nu}}_{0}$ depends upon the intensity of the rf field and the form of this dependence has been calculated and found to be in good agreement with the experimental results.read more

Time-dependent perturbation of a two-state quantum system by a sinusoidal field
TL;DR: In this paper, different methods for solving the two-level problem are discussed, namely, what happens to a material system having only two nondegenerate energy levels when it is perturbed by an electromagnetic field that varies with time in a monochromatic sinusoidal fashion.

Quantum control and quantum control landscapes using intense shaped femtosecond pulses
TL;DR: In this article, the effect of all sine parameters on the sensitivity of femtosecond laser pulses was investigated. And the authors showed that the selective population of dressed states is the underlying strong-field physical mechanism.

Large, valley-exclusive Bloch-Siegert shift in monolayer WS2
TL;DR: An exceptionally large Bloch-Siegert shift is observed in monolayer tungsten disulfide (WS2) under infrared optical driving, which allows for enhanced control over the valleytronic properties of two-dimensional materials.

Cooperative Optical Non-Linearity in a Blockaded Rydberg Ensemble
TL;DR: In this paper, the first demonstration of cooperative optical non-linearity based on Rydberg excitation was presented. But the experimental results were limited to the single photon regime and were not applicable to other single photon regimes.

Decaying-dressed-state analysis of a coherently driven three-level Λ system
TL;DR: In this paper, decaying-dressed states for a three-level Λ system driven at one atomic transition and probed at the adjacent one are introduced for a simple interpretation and classification of various coherent effects in such a system.
